First of all, I'll try and be brief here, since if someone else has had this problem and there's some guidance posted for it on this forum, maybe someone could refer me to that area.
Basically, this is what I have done and what I'm trying to get done.
First of all I have a laptop PC (Win XP) and a desktop PC (Win XP) linked by a crossover cable via to ethernet local access and I have bluetooth enabled for both PCs for file tranfer and network access primarily. The object here is to share the internet connection with the between the desktop and laptop, with the desktop as host and the laptop as client. So, I had everything working fine, with the bluetooth doing the internet and the direct cable connection for networking with file share. I could even bluetooth my HP Ipaq rx3715 with the desktop and everything seemed to work fine.
Well, I may have messed up, as I installed another version of bluetooth on the laptop and uninstalled the version that was on that laptop. I did this, because the newer version would not load on the OS of another older laptop, that I was trying to install bluetooth on. Well, the new version loaded alright and everything, however, could not get things matched up again. Could not get any kind of internet access between the laptop or the desktop or the handheld. So after, a lot of hours trying to figure out what to do next, I decided to load the version, which was previously on the laptop back on it. So, this is what I did and things started to straighten out. So, this is the current situation. I have internet connection, between the two on the direct crossover cable connection, but no internet through bluetooth, which is what, I would like to do. However, since, I had a lot of time consumed here already, I decided to leave it alone, as at least I had internet connection again on the laptop. So, now that leaves just the HP ipaq handheld, which now, I'm having difficulty trying to get a bluetooth internt connection established on. It seems to all center on the BT Null Modem, which did work before, but now wants a telephone number to dial on. I have read some other posts about internet connection through acitive async , but as yet haven't had any success with it yet.
So, would appreciate if anyone has some suggestions on what, I might try without re-inventing the wheel. The host PC would only allow ICS on one network adapter, so right now, I have it on the network adapter that connects directly to the internet. Also, I've read that the ICS adapter connection has to use address 192.168.0.1 on it for things to work correctly. Well, when, I try and use that address on the bluetooth network adapter, I receive an error message, telling me it cannot have the same IP address assigned as the internet connection. So, as it stands the bluetooth adapter is now assigned an IP address of 192.168.0.5.
Question is, do I have to change the IP address on the bluetooth nic to read 192.168.0.1? I kind of hate to upset the applecart, but also, I would like to get internet through bluetooth established on the HP handheld. So, if anyone has some ideas, would certainly welcome them.
Thanks
