3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g 54Mbps Access Point.

I attempted to hook one of these up at my house to extend the wireless signal from one end to the other, but it showed up as an "unsecured signal". I wasnt game to try it any further.

I am now wondering why it showed up as that?

my modem is a Billion 7404 VGP/M so the wireless comes off it as well.

Why does the wireless through the access point show up as "unsecured"?

My modem uses WPA2-PSK and the access point says it supports WPA2?

Did I not set it up correctly (more than likely)?

Any ideas?

Have you actually set up the WPA encryption yet?

Devices come out of the box unsecured to allow for easy access to setup (for better or for worse).

I.e. average WiFi device is unsecured, until you specifically secure it.

Unsecured is not a bad thing for a few minutes while you are getting things set up, but even in odd locations, will quickly be taken advantage of by miscreants, hackers, crackers, geeks, and people with WiFi devices that are happy enough to attach themselves to the nearest unsecured network.

I have just sat down and read the instructions (something I neglected to do the first time I attempted this) and have set it up correctly.

Man I wish I had done that before. i would have got this for nothing, now I have to pay for it!!

Don't know how much they are worth but I will have to see.

Thanks for nay help that has or was going to come.
