Okay, here's what I've got:

Desktop PC running Windows 2000 with two NICs. One is connected (via patch lead) to a cable modem which provides my internet access; the other is connected to an 8-port hub. Network configuration is as follows:

Cable modem NIC
IP Address - via DHCP
DNS - via DHCP

Internal network NIC
IP Address - 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - [empty]
DNS - [empty]

As you may have guessed, the cable modem lan connection is already shared out using ICS. Now, I've bought two of the F8T001 USB adapters, one of which is plugged into the desktop PC, the other is in a laptop. I've managed to use the file transfer feature both ways and have also been able to transfer files to and from my T610 onto both machines. The problem I'm having is with network access.

All I want to be able to do is access my internal (192.168.0.x) network from my laptop. I've tried playing around with various addresses and, although I can connect via the "nullmodem" connection (is this right?), I can't ping anything on my internal network.

Also, I don't get the "allow users to connect to this PC..." checkbox or dropdown in the configuration settings dialog!

My problem seemed similar to this one: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=8&TopicId=283 but after working through it, the solution didn't work for me.

Please can someone offer assistance?

I think you're out of lucky here - you'll need that 192.168.0.1 address on your Bluetooth virtual ethernet adapter. Since that is already in use by your other NIC, then you'll have a problem.

You don't say what OS you're using. If it's Windows XP, try using the Bridge feature. If it's Windows 2000 you'll have to use a third party software to provide routing, since ICS can only be used in one instance.

The reason you don't see the dropdown list is most likely related to the Bluetooth software version. Since you have Belkin F8T001 and don't specify it as version 2 (the new ones, withouth the antenna), I'll assume you're using drivers version 1.2. Go to the Belkin website and check for an updated version.

Hi Maurico!

Thanks for replying - I'm using Windows 2000 Professional and, yes, I'm using the old(?) adapters with the antennas (bit peeved at this as I only bought them last week). Have checked at www.belkin.com and I already have the latest version of the software available (1.2.2.16) - does anyone know of an updated version of the software?

For what it's worth, I did get it working through ICS today but obviously I had to kill my internal LAN for this to happen. Can anyone recommend some suitable software? I've heard of winrouter lite but can't seem to find it on the website.

Cheers

Chris

It seems that Kerio is playing with users. Yes, you're right Winrouter Lite would do the trick.

But Kerio removed this from their site - perhaps they now have lots of peolple after Kerio Lite and they want to upsell, keeping only the expensive version?

Kerio never replied to the e-mails I've sent to their contact addresses asking for an evaluation copy and more information. I guess they're one of the companies to be in my black list from now.

I'll have to look around for other software and will post on the Bluetooth forum later. Keep an eye on this!

I've solved it!

I downloaded NAT32 (www.nat32.com) and, after reading the docs properly [grin], I managed to get it all working. Briefly, here's what I did: Configured two private LANs - the local one (using the second NIC) as 192.168.0.1 and the bluetooth one as 192.168.2.1 (it's important they're different subnets), both with 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask and no DNS servers. NAT32 then uses 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.2.100 as the NAT'd addresses respectively and sets up DHCP servers on both subnets to issue these out as well.

Set all my clients (LAN and bluetooth) to connect via DHCP and - bingo - it works a treat!

One thing I have noticed since doing all this is that Sygate Personal Firewall is detecting lots of port scans coming from 128.193.0.28 (proxyscanner.freenode.net) - is this something to be concerned about?

Chris

ps, If anyone wants more information on configuring NAT32 (it's a bit unwieldy to start with), post a reply here.
