I have a couple of Netcomm HomePlug NP285s - one stopped working a couple weeks back, and just recently another one (I have four in total).

The Eth-Link/Act light won't light up, but the Pwr one does.  I'm wondering if these things have a reset or should I throw them out and replace them with two brand new ones.

A quick check to test if a pair is working or not, is to plug them both into a basic power strip, this removes the rest of your house wiring as a variable.

If they work there, then it's probably noise/interference related.  Noise can come from all sorts of weird devices you wouldn't expect like mobile phone chargers for example.

I'm concerned since the LAN light won't work.  It seems to power up fine but plugging them into a switch and they do nothing.

I wonder if they are stuffed.

Hi Nate,

I have used them a couple of times (and similar products)
I gave our supplier for netcomm a call and they could not give me a reset for them, they are software driven exclusively as far as they know.

Does the power link light (PL_LINK) work?

Plugging them into a power board (not surge suppresed) as Ragnor said including a known working unit and cabling to the working unit to communicate over the power rather than the lan cable may be a way to get the configuration software working.

Oh and its easy to make network loops with these things make sure only one unit goes to the switch.

Cheers

Joseph

I gave up with the old units, bought two new ones (they were pretty cheap) and everything is back up and working fine.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions
