I have purchased a Toshiba Satellite Model PSM40A-08L009, which I am sure has bluetooth. i have checked the base of my laptop and it has a label on it (248H-DPA3232B bluetooth operation system) on it.

But yet when I try a new connection it keeps coming up with "Bluetooth not ready". I have checked to see that it appears on. and am rather stumped. I have read on this site that some Toshiba Laptops only have the software and not the hardware, but am not sure this is the case with my model.

Appreciate if any one can lend some words to some one who is normally ok around a computer, but is feeling very siliconally challenged!

The "Bluetooth operating system" might just indicate that the OS iamge used to initialise your laptop is the one with the Bluetooth software in it.

The message "Bluetooth not ready" could be simply Bluetooth not on, or not present at all.

Open the Device Manager (Control Panel | System | Hardware) and see if there's a Bluetooth device listed there. Also some laptops require a combination of keys to be pressed (Fn - [something]) to turn this on and off.

Many Thanks,

Well everything ended up fine. I downloaded the new Bluetooth Stack from Toshiba and was away. Thanks for your assistance.

Cool... I am just now downloading some drivers from the Toshiba website to install on my Tablet PC running Windows Vista and noticed a couple of new Bluetooth drivers. I am glad it worked for you.
