Hey, I recently bought a "new" Thomson TG585v8 cheap on trade me. I am having a problem where none of the connected devices are able to see/ping/anything any of the other computers on the network, however we can all connect to the router and internet fine.

The computers can connect to each other for maybe up to an hour after the router is reset, but for some reason it just seems to stop working. Also during this time, file transfer is incredibly slow.

A while ago I saw on here someone else having the same problem, but fixing it after deactivating their wireless N, so I tried initially thinking it worked. But then finding out it was just because the router had reset to update the changes.

Umm, yeah so if anyone has any ideas what could be causing/how to fix this any help would be very much appreciated :)

Have you tried turning off the firewall in the device? this may be blocking this traffic, if turning it off works you may need to reconfigure the firewall to allow this traffic.

Otherwise are you sure when you are connected to the device that the network location settings in windows are set to Home Network and not Public Network.

Because if the network was originally set as a public network then this may cause you issue.

Please explain you setup in more detail if this doesn't work.

Try resetting the modem back to factory settings.

Try installing the latest firmware.

Ensure the modem has plenty of airflow to keep it cool - some say the thomson has an overheating issue.

If you still get problems, I'd throw it away, I went through a number of these modems and they all had problems.

Whoops sorry terryb8s I was a little busy when you posted, and then kinda forgot about it. Umm, yeah I had disabled the firewall, but that didn't help. The computers with windows vista and 7 have it set to a home network.

But yeah I have a ps3, some ipods, two xp computers, one 7, one vista, and one ubuntu, oh and a cell phone that can connect to the wireless.

Yeah I was thinking about trying a factory reset, but my flatmates get pissed when the internet goes down :| but will hopefully get it done this afternoon when everyone is out.

I also have an old thomson router that I had from a previous flat, which I think the power supply adapter died on. So hopefully I can just switch to that one if this doesn't work. I will also check it out to see if it is over heating because it is sitting on a windowsill but possibly has random stuff against it stopping airflow.

I have noticed these issues with the Thomson TG585v8 also. When the router gets into this state, it seems that wireless devices are able to see access outbound data - however, any incoming traffic from other wireless devices on the internal LAN will fail. Rebooting the router appears to bring things back to "normal" but the problem reoccurs.
