Does anyone know if a wireless modem router not connected to the Internet will allow wireless users to connect and see other wired or wireless users shared files or printers and users on another daisy-chained hub? Users would need to obtain an IP address automatically from the Router.
Am setting up a wireless network for a not-for-profit cadets group. They do not currently have internet access but may in future. A cheap solution to allow their internal users to share printers and files would be to buy an ADSL2+ wireless modem router which also has 4 wired ports.
Wireless and wired users need to see each other and share resources while the device is not connected to the outside world through its WAN port. When Internet access is arranged in future it would then need to allow selected users only internet access by e.g. MAC address and at preselected times only.
Can you recommend an affordable device that allows this? This would seem more sensible (and cheaper) than buying a wireless hub which has no option for future Internet access.
