ive recently bought a compact flash bluetooth card for my compaq ipaq 3835 and a blue tooth dongle for my desktop pc. When i installed the software on both devices they found each other. I made them trust eachother. On my PDA i chose the option to explore the bluetooth device when i chose the desktop pc it searched for services but found nothing. When i use the program on the pc to search for services on my pda it comes up with five icons obex file transfer, obex object push, serial port and two unknowns. I want to use the internet on my pda. please help. as u allready know i am a total noob .thanx

A couple of things you might try if you're using a widcomm based device on your computer:

  • right-click the Bluetooth icon on the system tray, open the configuration dialog and switch to local services. Make sure you have less then seven services started there. Reset your iPAQ and try finding the services again.

  • right-click the Bluetooth icon on the system tray, open the configuration dialog and switch to Accessibility. Make sure you have All Devices or Paired Devices in the "Devices allowed to connect to this computer".

when i open the program there isnt a bluetooth logo on the system tray. could it be that my bluetooth dongle is rubbish. the software it comes with is called xtnd manager and the dongle is a btd-2403 and power by windigo.

Ok, this is one of the Bluetooth dongles that does not use the Widcomm software then. Can you configure it to have less than seven services available, for a start?

Most likely not - the software is licenced to specific hardware and it'll be hard to find a version that would work with this dongle.

You can access the internet from your iPAQ by using ActiveSync. If you can manage to connect to ActiveSync using one of the COM ports created by the XTNDConnect stack then you can use this connection - exactly the same way it works when you have the iPAQ in the cradle. This is the option you have with this software.
