Hello

Recently I tried the above WAG and got it going.
However the wireless connection was difficult to maintain or even connect sometimes.
The laptop was next door and would see the network but wouldn't connect very often.

I was plugged into it via ethernet.

It seemed that whenever the phone rang the internet connection would halt.
The phones are the 2.4GHz cordless variety (different rooms from where my PC is)

One person at Dick Smith suggested that the phone ringing can interfere with the signal as the WAG also runs at 2.4 GHz.
Seemed very odd but did seem to hold true.

Has anyone else come across this or is it all just a big coincidence?

Thank you

Nigel

A cordless phone can definately cause issues. Most 2.4Ghz stuff all runs in the ISM band which requires no licencing, therefore most 2.4Ghz devices all use common frequencies.

My first suggestion would be to try changing wireless channels in you router and see if that helps?

Are you phones definately 2.4GHz? There are not actually that many 2.4Ghz phones on the market, most DECT phones use 1.8GHz however it's primarily the Unidens which us their own digital standard that use the band.

Aha. Sounds like some sensible suggestions.

I will try some variations. Thank you.

More tips...

Make sure to upgrade to the latest firmware version 1.01.23
Go to www.linksys.co.nz >> Support >> Downloads
The download pages says version 1.01.25, however you'll find that the file is actually 1.01.23

The in-built wireless on my Compaq V2000 series laptop had intermittent connection troubles with the WAG54G too. It hasn't been an issue since I've updated the Intel PRO driver on the laptop and performed the aforementioned firmware update.

I have a 2.4GHz AV sender in the house and have had to 'tweak' the wireless channel settings on my WAG54G.
