I have tried so many routers over my time and they all seem to have their quirks. I am after a reliable solid router that i dont have to reboot, that doesnt lock up.. i want Cisco reliability (like you would get from an 1801 for example but i surely dont have to pay $1000 for a DSL router?
I dont have very advanced requirements, just good ADSL2+ connectivity and Wifi + SOLID
I have tried multiple models on multiple connections over my time and they all seem to have their quirks. The experiences below are my experiences and others may have had different luck, but they are my exeperiences none the less and make me wonder what to look at next.
I got excited seeing the Cisco SRP527w thinking it may be a step up from Linksys electronics (which have burnt me bad in numberous situations) but the first thing i google is having to reboot them after 3 days...... its 2011 man.. surely someone on the planet has got an ADSL router harware/software right.. imagine if the computer on a boeing 747 had the hit rate of a domestic ADSL router!! carnage!!
Linksys WAG160 - good features but just not stable - locks up, tried newer frimwares.. cant be bothered having to fight my router...
Siemens SX762 - using now, great little router, simple UI but still occasionally just reboots itself for no reason.. generally under load, i just downloaded win8 developer build and it rebooted 5 times in the process
Thompsons (multiple models) - we use at work and at our customers, they seem OK, but still not rock solid and their GUI is horrid
Dlink - Horrid UI, horrid performance
Can anyone recommend an ADSL2 router that just doesnt stop doing what its designed to do and the UI hasnt been designed by a social outcast???? Im contemplating just buying a Cisco 800 series but then I have to have IOS and configs and command line to add NAT entries, surely there is a happy medium....... that i just havent found yet....
