Hi guys,

I have a Netgear WGR614 wifi router that has been working fine for some time, and even now it is working fine, both with cabled computers or using wifi.

However, I just went to change a setting and to also allow another compuer access via MAC, BUT I cannot effect any changes, viz. clicking the Apply button simply gives me an error message saying it 'can't access the web page'!

Usually, clicking Apply would reboot the router and the changes are given effect.  I can access the router interface, obviously, and it is still working as far as internet access goes.

Any clues as to what the fault is please?  Is the router failing?

R.

If you're using IE9, try putting it in Compatibility View. A lot of router interfaces don't work well in IE9.

The browser suggestion gave me an idea ... changed default browser to Chrome, and bingo, can now make changes etc.

This IE7 is giving me a headache .

Are you patched up to date otherwise in Windows Update?

UPDATE: The problem was not so much with IE, it is with AVG anti-virus update (2012 Edition).

Turning off 'Link Scanner' allows IE to access and change router settings ... seems to have been a 'problem' reported around the internet over last month.

The software doesn't have anywhere for an 'exception' to be nominated, so Link Scan is either off or on.
