I've worked it out to be just under 30 GB, is my math right?

1.4 MB/s * 60 (seconds per minute) * 60 (minutes per hour) * 6 hours = 30,240 MB = 29.5 GB

This is assuming a steady connection speed. Thanks.

1.4 Megabytes per second * 6 hours in gigabytes = 30.2 Gigabytes

Thanks for that, I did google but got nothing meaningful.

Thanks for moving mods, I wasn't sure where to put it exactly.

Hee, when the net goes down in a solar flare of CME's, out come the coloured blocks!

CME peak is next year I think of its 11 year cycle.

Of course thats not counting TCP overhead and lost packets. Please don't chop your toes to allow for lost packets...

No, I put it there so that there was no arguing that I was wrong (which seems to be commonplace here).

But curiously (or amusingly) enough, it is wrong. It is 30240MB, which is 29.5GB, not 30.2GB - unless you're a hard drive manufacturer.

Yes - @ codyc1515: 1024 bytes in a kilobyte, 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte, 1024 megabytes in a gigabyte...

My question is whether you are talking about Megabits per second or MegaBytes per second.

Of course transfer speeds are colloquially referred to in bits, but you have indicated that you are talking about bytes  (capitalised B).

I assume you realise if you then convert 1.4 MB per second to bits you get  11.2 Mb per second.

That is pretty fast if you are talking about an internet connection over 6 hours.

It is not bad.

Consider 4MB/s on Snap's 1-7AM free download period. That's about 80GB per period, and Snap give you 3 periods for $5.00. Think it works out to be about 250GB for $5. Not bad eh? ;)
