Any idea why this is happening? Do VPN's actually use double the usage or is this some sort of mistake?

Just left Utorrent to download for a few minutes to get some statistics and

What Utorrent reports:
Down: 15.4MB
Up: 0.286MB

I used two network usage monitoring programs Networx and Bitmeter.

What Networx Reports:
Down: 39MB
UP: 3.25MB

What Bitmeter Reports:
Down: 38.94MB
Up: 3.92MB

Statistics from my modem: (I disabled wireless and any other computing accessing the router and reset the statistics before doing this.)

Ethernet
Recieved: 3123159 Bytes (2.97MB)
Transmitted: 22473096 Bytes (21.43MB)

WAN
Recieved: 22420320 (21.38MB)
Transmitted: 3158832 (3.01MB)

What does WAN mean? Should I add Ethernet and Wan up to get a total? Any idea why my modem is reporting that Ethernet has only received 2.97MB and Sent 21.43MB? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I disabled monitoring of my usual network adapter, so it only monitors the Virtual one for the VPN and this has not solved the problem.

haha the more I look into it the more confused I get

most bandwidth monitoring programs obtain data from all adapters on your computer, VPN's have there own adapter, resulting in double usage being shown

Sorry forgot to mention in the post above, I have disabled monitoring for my usual network adapter and the issue still remains.

In your case WAN is how much traffic is going through the internet interface/side of your modem/router, that's the only value that really that matters.

utorrent's value is less than the others because the others are measuring all internet traffic on your PC not just utorrent's traffic.

Internet data is used to maintain the vpn and generally to do other things on the PC like dns lookups, background tasks like: update time, check for windows updates etc.

In networkx do you have ignore LAN traffic checked, otherwise you will be counting general lan traffic between machines on your network.

Yeah I have the box ticked for disabling monitoring of Local traffic in networx and it's still recording inaccurate usage :/
