Hey,

I just moved to a new host family and need at least 60 GB to cover all my monthly needs on the Internet.

The family only has LAN but with no usage limit and it's 12Mbps (so really good

). But they said the more I use the more they have to pay, and 60gb would be a lot of money for them.

On vodafone.co.nz I saw something called Pocket Wi-Fi (RS201). Apparently they limit it to just 2GB per month.

Do you have any suggestions how I can get it up to at least 60GB? Or do you suggest a completely different way to solve my urgent problem?

Mobile Internet plans are usually limited to 1 GB, 2GB or 6GB. Anything over this will cost quite a bit.

For example, 3 GB on 2degrees will cost you $50. Mobile will not be cheap.

Your option is to pay what you use. Or not use it at all.

Easiest is to just pay them for what you use.

How much are you willing to pay? Why not just find a cheap naked dsl provider and get a second line put in? set up cost will be around the $150 mark but after that is just your monthly fees. That way the connection is totally yours so wont get slowed by the family using it.

This is all assuming the house isnt 100 years and feed by a single pair cable. Most houses built in the last 30 years have a two pair underground allowing for two lines to be connected.

And of course this isnt a super quick fix but you could easily have a line on within a week.

Well sounds like a good idea...

But does it affect the current internet, phone and stuff of them? The house should be around 10 years old...

The line will be completely separate from the other phone/broadband. just get the tech who installs the line to put it next to an existing jack point which should keep the cost down. Then just plug your own wireless router in and you will be happy as.

What city/suburb are you in? Wireless internet from companies like compass communications, araneo, etc is available in some cities and might be another way to get your internet fix
