I assume not all dsl routers perform the same. We are currently using a Linksys WAG54gp as our router, but I am wondering if for an office of 10 or so people who use the net a bit we might be better off with something more suited to a small business.

Any suggestions or requests for more info would be most appreciated.

I would go Draytek Vigor 120 (PPPoA to PPPoE relay/full bridge) into a server running pfsense (gateway, firewall, monitoring, caching, QoS).

Thanks Ragnor, we currently run Endian firewall, you reckon pfsense is better or better suited to the Draytek?

EDIT. Ok I see the pfsense is for routing.

I'm not familiar with Endian.

If you're already got it setup nicely and if Endian supports PPPoE for the WAN connection you can just just run Draytek Vigor 120 into your Endian firewall.

Yeah Endian/pfSense will do the same thing. And both should be fine with a Vigor120 :)

I assume that the advantage of PPPoE direct to the LAN is faster throughput, correct?

No directly, but it means the modem (most of which are underpowered) isn't really doing any NAT/routing/firewalling work so no effort required on its part. This sometimes has a side effect of faster throughput, but mostly stops the modem being overwhelmed and crashing.
