Hi all,

Just seeing who uses the Strong VPN service for obtaining a state side (USA) IP address.

Ideally you want to use a server closest to NZ, so the west coast of the USA.

On checking today, there are no available servers available in LA or San Francisco.

Has anyone been lucky enough to get a west coast server? Closest and best performing route to a US Strong VPN server at this point in time are servers in Miami.

I have an astrill vpn which gives you unlimited switches between servers all over the world. The unfortunate thing is that the LA1 server is the default so lots of poeple are on it. I haven't got a good speed out of either of the LA servers yet. At the moment I have mine sitting in canada which seems to give great speeds at the moment.

I use WiTopia. I've noticed with Astrill that Amazon will send an automated email to your account every time time that Astrill is used, asking to change your password as they say your account was potentially phished.

They probably have Astrill's IP range blacklisted somewhere. This doesn't happen with WiTopia.

Yip I've been using them and off for a couple years now. Never had a problem with security or billing - I use paypal.

I'd give them the big thumbs up!

I'm using a StrongVPN server in San Franciso region. Works really well - performance consistently good (generally between 2 - 5 mbs).

Thanks. I have been impressed with StrongVPN thus far both with performance and support I am just trying to eke out whatever performance gains I can get.

I currently get around 2-3Mbps off a VPN server in Washington DC. This is fine for SD streaming video but would like to get around the 5Mbps+ mark for the lower end (720p) HD streaming.

For those looking to select a VPN server there is definitely a slow down (RTT ms) when you hop from east coast (orange) to west coast (red) as shown in the VisualRoute diag below. Nothing major but every bit counts so go west side!
