We've now got more wireless devices in our house and I find that sometimes things seem slow. Our wireless devices include:
- Netbook
- Laptop
- Desktop with wireless adaptor
- Sony TV
- Wii
- Android phone
Most of the devices, except the desktop, are within
When I first got the TV I tested out the media server functionality by installing TVersity on my desktop and displaying photos on the TV. Everything worked fine when I had the TV plugged into the modem/router via a cable. When I purchased the Sony wireless adaptor and tried again it now seems very slow navigating between photos (like 30 seconds between each photo). I'm wondering if the slow down is because both the TV and the desktop are using wireless whereas before one was cabled?
I'm looking at upgrading to a router with 802.11g/n to take advantage of the features that 802.11n offers (better throughput and range). My questions:
Do you think this would help out my TV/media server slowness?
Are 802.11n routers better than 80.11g at handling several wireless devices at once?
Is there any advantage to a separate modem and router over a combined modem/router?
I'm looking at a TP-Link TD-W8960N. Comments?
I assume that I can use both 802.11g and 802.11n devices at the same time with a modem that says it supports 802.11g/n?
I have a Panasonic DECT cordless phone. Would this impact on the channel I set the 802.11n router to?
My ISP is Telstra-Clear and the Chorus Service Availability Tool says that I should be getting ADSL2+ and VDSL at my location.
