I have a D-Llink DIR-615 flashed with DD-WRT firmware. I bought it that way. But when I tried to install a package requiring OpenVPN it complained that OpenVPN was not installed.

I have been trolling the net trying to find how to do that but the Linux shell scripts that I have seen are beyond my area of expertise. I can guess a fair bit of it but am fearful I might brick the router.

So this is  a call to help to anybody familiar with shell script and/DD-WRT who can give me some guidance.

Many thanks

Does DD-WRT support optware? Surely its just a matter of installing the OpenVPN optware package?

No idea which is why I am asking. This particular posting shows you have to do it but I really am not clear about all of it.

I can see the script appears to grab some script from a web site and in there is another script that looks like it downloads gz files and then untar and ungz them but from there it's not so obvious.

I don't think I need the code for the RSA private key since the VPN provider has supplied a script that does all that so long as OpenVPN is installed.

Unfortunately the device (most revisions anyway) only has 4MB flash so when you go to the DD-WRT website and check the downloads for the model it will only show the standard build (which doesn't include vpn).

There are many different build sizes, the smaller the build the less features included. Open VPN is included in some of the larger versions of DD-WRT (vpn, mega etc).

That forum post or others like it with a custom script to install openvpn is probably you only hope, I wouldn't hold my breath.

That is what I am trying to do. Run the code during startup of the router as the posts indicate you can do.

As an aside I was able to install OpenVPN from scripts provided by overplay.com and connect to their VPN servers fine.

I just need help with the scripts.
