Just received an email touting the new Pebble 'Time' smart watch, featuring a colour e-ink display while retaining its 7 day battery life. Available in three colours and with a slightly more rounded, less jarring shape.
I find it interesting that it is being offered via kickstarter again. I would have thought Pebble was beyond this by now, or is it a way to test the market without a huge upfront production cost?

Yeah. Interesting strategy. It looks like it is working as the pledges are rolling in. Colour epaper = good. Microphone = good. Hardware = not so pretty in the looks department.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

colour eink is cool, but the watch just looks dated, with android wear and ios watch doing so much more...

They said in the video it is pretty much ready. May is delivery date. Surely it couldn't happen twice!

Then why choose kickstarter?

It doesn't make sense to me.

Because "crowd sourcing" is cool and hip at the moment

and fom a Company's point of view as soon as they hit the pledge amount all the cash goes to them,

Although to be honest I think that Kickstarter may "incentivise" some companies to use their service to increase Kickstarter's profile, I mean every mention of a a new color e-ink smart watch will include mentioning Kickstarter.....

Pebble owner here. Not tempted. Have not been happy with it lately, the screen "corrupts" regularly, and it also looses the pairing with the iPhone.

Looking forward to the Apple Watch, which will be available long before this Pebble v. 2.

The main 2 advantages for pebble is - always ON screen and once a week charge.

I think Apple watch is only rated for 2.5 - 5 hours of usage. Expect the need to charge it every night.

I get 1 1/2 day out of my iPhone 6 Plus.

Don't expect the Apple Watch to last more than a day though.

I had that and got mine replaced due to it being a hardware issue. They sent me a new one with in a week of reporting the issue.

Just missed out on the early bird cheaper version but I've backed the $179 one.

Been using Pebble for about 18 months now and it's been fantastic, can't wait for the new one!

Sounds like a problem with your Pebble.  Assume you've been down the restoration path?  Mine has been rock solid, none of those issues you're experiencing.
