So I just bought a Nest outdoor camera (the 1080p one) and it's great and all as in usability, but the video quality is terrible. Whenever a few trees move everything becomes blocky and a blurry mess, not to mention when a person walks by, you can't ID them as there whole body and face are blocks off mess. I checked the network traffic the camera was doing, it's only uploading about ~100KB/s give or take ~20KB/s, not really what I'd expect for a 1080p video feed.

This is what I mean with blocky https://www.dropbox.com/s/bx12nvki7ujfz7v/Screenshot%202018-03-25%2011.14.56.png?dl=0

(cropped for privacy, that's what I see on the Nest's site or when I download the clip)

This is even when the camera is 2 meters from the WiFi router, and we have a 30/10 fibre connection.

Does anyone know if Nest has NZ "cloud" servers, or is our footage being sent to the US all the time?

I'm thinking probably no NZ server, as when I look at where the "live" video feed comes from... it's from LA https://www.dropbox.com/s/xsy969r6w1wtptr/Screenshot%202018-03-25%2011.07.23.png?dl=0

Thinking maybe it's due to a bad connection to there US cloud servers.

I talked to Nest support about it and they also concurred that our internet is great (though not sure if they just looked at my NZ speed test I sent them, or if they actually could run a speed test on the camera), either way after they done a bunch of tests she concluded that I had a faulty lens... I'm not too sure how a bad lens would affect video quality in this way, they offered a free replacement, not sure if it's worth the hassle.

I also bought it from US Amazon and they sent me the US plug one... so maybe the NZ Nest has a NZ server, does anyone here have a NZ Nest camera to confirm?

I found the "medium" quality setting to be the best. My Nest camera would not produce fluid images on the high quality setting. I think image quality is to be expected.

Aah yeah, I did notice there were hiccups at times and low frame rates. Think I'll get a refund and try something else. As much as I'll miss the great app.
