Hi.

I am looking at a couple of Yeelight Ceiling Smart Lights, and wondering if you can use the standard power switches with them for on and off, but use your phone if you want to DIM/Change colours etc? I dont want to use the huge ugly controller for dimming etc.

TIA

I've got a few different saucer-style Yeelights (not the bulbs, not sure if they are different). The wall switch powers them off and on fine, almost always restoring them to their previous brightness and hue settings. Every now and then you do get issues and have to reset the colours.

We do have the remotes though and really like them. Way quicker and easier than opening up the app. I've 3d printed holders to go with the switches and the kids like to take them to bed with them to turn the lights off without getting up again. I wouldn't describe them as huge though (pretty slimline really) so we might be talking about different ones?

Thanks. Just to confirm, you are using standard household switches, PDL or whatnot?

When I watched the reviews there is a big round remote they were using:

But I think that must be an optional extra. I think the remote that comes with it is a little handheld one, though annoyingly I can't see any pictures or mention of it.

Cheers

You definitely can use standard household switches to turn them on and off, those big round switches are not included.

If the PB Tech linked version don't come with a remote (and I think that's the case as it's not explicitly mentioned) then these are the remotes you want.

Thank you.
Will 1 remote control two lights or need 1 for each?

Agreeing with tigercorp (i) yes standard household lightswitches (mostly PDL 600); and (ii) PBtech doesn't seem to include a remote unless expressly stated in the product description. I have several of the slimline remotes and they work well. But they work on bluetooth and need to be paired to an individual light, so one remote per light. The last one I got also didn't come with a battery 😡.

I've just noticed the light you've linked to is a 550S; the remote says it supports 550 but you might like to double check compatibility. None of the lights I have are coloured, just dimmable and adjustable white temperature.

Thanks. I guess we will find out. I don't expect to dim or change the colour of these, it's more a case of having the option and in the occasional time we might need to, happy to use the app, or Alexa.

The lights I've ordered are 3500 lumens, we may need to permanently dim them, depending on HOW that light is delivered. There were 300w Halogens there previously

I knew they were huge, tried to prepare myself mentally, but seeing them delivered and seeing the box they are in, is quite something else. They are massive

Remotes are included.
