I also received my Chromecast this morning, and had a quick play with it before heading out.

I managed to play Netflix through the Chromecast (although sound came through the laptop not the TV) by clicking the Chromecast button on the Chrome browser toolbar, rather than the Chromecast button in the Netflix player (Laptop was setup with UnblockUS DNS). Based on this, Chromecasting from the browser button seems to work more like Apple Airplay

Annoyances not at the product, but rather at rights holders than impose a geo restriction in products then complain if people bypass that...

As I said, I can consume content using other means (and my main entertainment centre is the HTPC, which the Chromecast is not even close to replace). The main reason for me to buy it is that at $35 is easy to get one to try and see how it works.

The main reason I've bought two was to play with at this cheap price but maybe I should cancel my order as it's sounding like it's too hard down here and a waste for just YouTube which i can do now on my WDTV..

I believe that my Chromecast works better doing YouTube than the app on my Smart TV... I would also keep your order considering the possibilities for the future with this device. Personal opinion of course...

freitasm: Got the Chromecast units here today and as expected Netflix won't work, even though it plays just fine on the tablet with Hola. Sending content from YouTube and Chome browser (desktop) work just fine.

Another annoyance is how the Chromecast app is not actually available outside the USA in the standard Google Play Market, only through third party downloads. A bit disappointing this bit.

Do you have a link to this 3rd [party app as like you the Play store wouldn't let me get it..??

My Chromecast is great.
My kids queue up and watch youtube shows without me having too (even managed to impress my wife).
They have their own tablets ($150 for a computer (tablet) is great - beats the $3,400 I paid back in 1992 for a '286).
The Chromecast process is easier to use that the Samsung SmartTV menu we used to use.
I'll sign up to Unblock-Us this weekend and watch a few movies.
I've got the 3 months Netflix free-sub - lucky me.

I live in the SI and we use a satellite-free-view box as there's no terrestrial-free-view.
So basically my TV is just a screen like a computer screen.
The source of the entertainment-feed is not the TV anymore.
YouTube, NetFlix, TVOnDemand, other internet shows, all start from tablets, laptops, phones.
It's quite a change.
It will be interesting to see what SkyTV subscribers do.
I already know a few guys who pay the $6/month for the cricket and/or cycling internet feeds.
Why would TVNZ or SkyTV be a viable business in the long term?

Unlock-US will not work as the device is hard wired to use Google DNS. You need a router that can intercept/redirect DNS requests.

The Google DNS (8.8.8.8) is hardcoded into the Chromecast, so the UnblockUS DNS set on my router is ignored by the Chromecast, and thus Netflix can 'see' that I am in New Zealand.

When casting from the netflix button, the URL is given to the Chromecast and it loads the video itself (but cannot in NZ). When casting from the browser button, the browser (on my laptop, with UnblockUS) loads the video and then relays it onto the Chromecast (much like Apple airplay)

I haven't seen anything. Only solution at present is to get a router that supports dnsmasq

God dammit, i really want this product to launch in EUROPE, all of my friends want this....
I hope it gets released sooner so everybody could enjoy this DONGLE xD
