Has anyone managed to get the Fire Cube to allow Spark Sport, TVNZ, Threenow etc apps? They're getting featured to me and I can get them on my fire stick but the moment I try to get them on the Cube, it shows unavailable when you click into the ad for them. It's weird it's promoting apps then not letting me download them. I can install the APK and sideload them but they still don't recognize them in the featured apps if i do that so I end up with two lots, the featured official ones and my Apk side loaded ones which unlike the official ones probably won't auto update. Tried changing regions and all that jazz.

Talked to amazon, they gave me the general runaround ignoring even the screenshots I was showing them of it being advertised to me. Any solutions?

First what generation of Cube do you have - check the OS version below

Secondly try to install the software via the website links

Some of these apps are tagged to Android 9 or for specific Fire TV variants. For example they don't install on the Pendent version of the FireTV

But they will install on the FireTV 4K which also runs Android 7.1

I've got the Gen 1 by the looks of things, the apps won't deliver to it through the website either even though they work when sideloaded.

richms: Is this different to what the youtube player shows as the codec? Because I am seeing heaps and heaps of AV1 on the stats for nerds page of youtube. Even old 480p stuff is getting AV1

With FireStick YouTube App? Maybe YouTube is providing more than last month. As you know the provider decides what each device gets to see based on provider assessment of device capability and competitive relationship factors etc.

I retuned to FireTV today after a long break. YouTube stats for nerds show more AV1 on YouTube. Looks like Google are transcoding old stuff starting with the most popular and working back towards the tail.

X-ray menu on 4k is not working for me at all in current release. Any tips appreciated.

Netflix on FireTV 4k no AV1 for me on anything. Boo. The good news, x-ray confirms i get most things in hevc 4k inside 24mb/sec!

That is something I believe rarely get from Chromecast 4k but in reality there's no equivalent menu on that device to confirm the negative 100%.

Hi I had a first experience with a fire tv stick, set up for someone else. Was slow and painfully to set them up creating log in to several apps. Notably missing Freeview streaming app, but I see now see that it could be side loaded APK.

They had a dish tv box that could not be set up, we found later that the rental apartment had cable but no sat dish installed. The dish tv box had wifi but no apps.

I also have a buggy dishtv box (smart vu+) that won't connect via dish, has a intermittent fault with HDMI socket, painful to select internet streaming, lose audio if tv turned off requires power off smart vu and restart. I use casting, Freeview streaming, youtube, prime video, TVNZ+ and sometimes three now.

Wondering if I should pick up a fire tv 4k as a replacement, a fire cube for additional connectivity, something else or get a smart tv in future.

Note i usually follow a low budget path. And have google home, not Alexa.

Considered a Chromecast with Google TV?

FireTV 4K is a good choice. It's the only budget 4K stick supporting AV1 at this time making it somewhat future proof. I've found it excellent.

Google will release a new 4k device at some point, not yet.

I was considering fire tv as a better device than a Chromecast with google tv, mixed reviews???? Although I agree google would suit my use. Fire stick 4k currently $79.

It’s good but super slow as well entering log on ids for streaming services. Still personally think Apple TV is way to go often non 4 k ones on trademe for good price
