Hadnt had any problems with mine but it did pull down an update over the weekend when I turned on the wifi.

Nothing much seems to have changed as far as I can tell but I havent looked very closely. Never had a single crash or random reboot so think that it is fine, at least for me.

Yeah, mine updated and rebooted about a couple weeks ago, but that was it.

Disrespective: Well i've had mine for a few weeks now and i'm experiencing more and more frequent crashes and random reboots. It's not ideal as i seem to lose the last reading sessions worth of read pages. Makes it a little tough to find where i was up to when i've read several hundred pages....

Word on the grapevine is that there will be an official update available soon to help fix these. There is a beta version floating around now that hackers are tinkering with.

Is this a known issue? I got mine 30th August and haven't had a single problem - maybe you got  a bum device

Yeah i don't think it's a bum unit as there a quite a few threads on the random reboots. It only started happening last week so i'm not quite sure what the story is. My software version is 3.0.1 at the moment, will see if there is an update around over the next month or so before i think about anything more serious.

Hmm, has anyone noticed that the charging LED doesn't come on when it's in sleep mode? As soon as the flick the power button back on, the yellow LED comes on to indicate it's charging. Is it actually charging while in sleep mode + no LED?

I wouldn't know - mine hasn't shown up yet. Apparently Amazon addressed mine to "Waitakere" (no seriously, that's it. No name or anything) and only my constantly harassing the couriers stopped it being redirected back to Kentucky.

There is a early preview of 3.0.2 available from the Amazon website.
It has updated drivers for the e-paper and wireless cards and changes to Topaz, Mobi and the browser. I've been using it for a week or more with only a minor issue with gmail in the web browser.

Yeah i popped the beta on the other day and haven't noticed any crashes yet. Not really sure if it's *that* much faster or anything to be honest but i'm not really going to complain about that as it was already plenty fast enough.

Well, My kindle 3 (wifi) arrived today and is currently charging as we speak while I read a copy of 'IT'. The screen is amazing, much more contrasty than the kobo. Holding it in the leather case feels like a real book and the page refreshes are fast - to me anyway it doesn't seem any slower than turning a page on a real book. Loving the inbuilt dictionary feature. If anyone is thinking of buying one then definately get a copy of Calibre for mac or windows. Looks like no work is getting done today lol. There were some restrictions on some of the books I wanted which is a shame, however ... well, I won't go into that...

Or Linux - the platform Calibre was originally developed for.

Does the Kindle 3 3G support experimental free 3G browsing like the American version?
