Youtube casting works well, picture quality is close to perfection. Had a problem with the sound, fixed by using a different HDMI port, other the one marked with "HDMI ARC".

I couldn't "proper" cast Netflix from desktop, despite hacking the router iptables. Browser casting works fine.

sonyxperiageek: If you are looking for the Chromecast APK, I have made it easier for you to get it: http://nztech.co/chromecastapk

I am looking for it as Google Play lies and claims its not compatible with any of my devices.  Not compatible with my country I suspect.

The link fails for me, "Error code: ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED"  (neither co.nz, nor com seemed to work either.)

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Hamish.

Seems to be working again.. A minor issue that even I'm not sure where the problem lay!

No sound and the video lags badly. Doesn't look like video it's meant to be cast this way. Unfortunately there is only three valid video sources, netflix, youtube and google play.

No luck at all with Netflix. Have however been happily opening MP4's with Chrome & casting to the telly.

I am thinking to order Chromecast (once it available back on amazon) but wondering if somebody can give more details on their experience with

1) Setup - How easy, can it work with any TV with HDMI input
2) Performance
3) Does it screen-cast anything running on your chrome or just netflix and youtube.
4) What do i do make netflix run on TV from my lapton (windows 8)
5) How much it costed in NZD including shipping and which shipping method is better - youshop or shipit
5) Do you recommend buying it overall

1. Very easy, works with any TV that has an HDMI port, if the TV doesn't have HDMI 1.4a port (meaning its a new model) it needs a USB power source (one not marked SERVICE) or to be plugged in (via USB port to a wall adapter).

2. Works quite well, loads 1080p YouTube without any issues on my connection (20 Mbps down).

3. Screen-cast doesn't work with Netflix (doesn't like Microsoft Silverlight, which Netflix uses), you can cast with YouTube normally

4. You need a router which supports redirecting DNS queries, mentioned in previous pages of this topic. Simply changing the DNS on settings on the router to Unblock-US/similar service WILL NOT WORK.

5. $40 NZD from Amazon and $22 from YouShop @ $11/500g.

You can also cast your whole PC screen to the telly as well.. It's just in "Experimental" mode and a bit laggy.

If you are just going to cast iSky (which works, but I haven't managed to get the sound working for any of my tab-casting, anyone please?), just cast the tab, not the whole desktop. It's a bit smoother in playback.
