old3eyes: Mine finally arrived today. Kind of surprized that the setup wouldn't work from my desktop until I added a WiFi dongle to it. After that i could cast via LAN cable only OK. Even iSky seemed to work reasonably well or as good as iSky ever works.. Works well on YouTube.

I assume that the Chromecast installer will not work on Win XP as it wouldn't install on my wife's laptop.

Will have to read thru the 15 page thread to see what I'm missing.

I side loaded the Android app as per the link back in this thread OK but interesting to see you can buy it on the iTunes app store for about $1.29. Why not on Google Play Store??

I'm pretty sure the Chromecast app for iOS is not currently available and that may be a third-party app instead. Google Play Store have just geo-restricted the Chromecast app, that's all.

Got it all setup, and now currently streaming Netflix on to TV. Ended up putting Tomato (Shibby) onto the Linksys E2500, and linked it to Vodafone Station LAN to WAN. Then put Unlocators DNS server addresses onto the E2500, and then ticked the "Intercept DNS port" option. Also tried Unlocators setup instructions, and that worked also. Have one very happy american flatmate now.

Me too when I read that, but later it occurred to me that the Wi-Fi configuration initialisation will only be possible using 802.11's peer-to-peer ad-hoc mode.

That would explain, I think, the need for the Wi-Fi dongle, as until the credentials are provided to the Chromecast, it can't join the infrastructure mode BSS?

I'm off to the US this week and hoping to grab as many of these as I can get my hands on as I already know a few people after them. If anybody is keen on one keep an eye out as I'll put a post on here when I get back if I've managed to grab any.

I see in the Play Store now a beta app called RemoteCast that is designed for Chromecast. I least you can access it from NZ Play store. Seems to work OK on my tablet..

I see that there are at least 13 Chromecast units currently listed on TradeMe.

My American mate says Best Buys still have them available for US$35.

So does Amazon. Some of the people selling these on TM are a bit optimistic with their pricing. Some of the "buy Now" pricing is nothing but a rip off..

Yep - I paid US$35 on Amazon with free US shipping @ 0.8000 exchange rate = NZ$43 + $17 shipping to NZ by YouShop = $60 all up. Due here any day now.

Note - no GST because it's worth less than $400.
