One thing I have noticed about my CC is when I cast from my desktop say iSky after about 10 ~ 15 minutes it just disconnects. When I go back to the PC the CC is not always visible. However from my cell fone or tablet with You Tube no problems..

Agreed with that stupid locked DNS entry..

I've been 'casting' from Chrome for a few weeks now, and virtually no problems other than having to adjust both the site's quality and reducing ChromeCast's projection quality to get smooth flowing TV picture, BUT I suspect that might be wifi reception.

Am about to try placing ChromeCast unit higher (TV's HDMI sockets are at lower-left of back panel and sheilded quite a bit from wifi signal there), using HDMI extension cable.

A mate in the USA overcame similar problem by using a wifi repeater (Apple Express I think) in the lounge near the TV itself.

Would be nice to have a unit with ethernet connection though.

sonyxperiageek: Yep the Chromecast has just been announced and let's you (sort of) "mirror" content from a range of devices with Chrome to your TV with just this HDMI stick! Yes there are also some cheap chinese Android sticks around but for this price (35USD) this is seriously a no brainer; but not currently available in NZ..

So I guess it's time to get out my "lightning-speed mouse" and try to score one off Amazon later today. May also be my first time to try out Youshop as well as it will probably not ship to NZ yet.. :(

Approximate total cost of package would be 62NZD with Youshop.

Anyone else buying one (or 24) as well?

I do know of a person who regularly imports them from the states, haven't had a chance to get one myself though haha

Well to be honest, I am kind of disappointed with this.. When tab-casting, sound doesn't work; when desktop-mirroring it lags behind; Not a lot of compatible apps at the moment even with the XDA guys hacking away because of Google tightening its security on this (well atm); DNS is hardwired so no Netflix etc in NZ. So only useful for viewing YouTube on the TV at the moment...

How good is the youtube on tv? Heard conflicting reports about if it is the actual 1080 stream it plays or the lower quality ones.

Youtube is fantastic on the chromecast. There is no way to tell what definition it plays in but most stuff looks HD. Some streams are low quality but it seems to be dictated by the original content.

I've just found out that the Chromecast extension now carries the ability to display (cast) the entire computer screen (desktop, etc) rather than just a Chrome browser tab.

Found the setting and sure enough up came my Desktop and any application I chose to open/run ... I even had my webcam picture up there frightening the horses .

The cast is a little skewed but playng with the extensions' settings should make adjustments for the TV being used.

I've got it - but I haven't actually used it with a Chromecast as it's still in transit - but it looks good to go!

Just got my Chromecast now, finally! Have setup my Router (with Gargoyle installed) for unlocator DNS, anybody know how to get NZ geolocked websites to function using this setup as now all devices cannot access tvnz on demand etc, Netflix working ok though. I seem to remember unblock us having settings for NZ websites.

Interesting Netflix is working as I thought Chromecast had the Google DNS hardcoded - or is you router intercepting requests to 8.8.8.8 and responding to them?

Gargoyle can intercept DNS requests and use custom DNS servers.
