kiwitrc: Team Eureka have released a new ROM with some very nice features. I can now cast from my phone using Allcast and Avia, haven't tried anything else yet. Also having a play with the Web interface which is straight forward.

Custom DNS is a very nice feature for non-US users.

Nice! May give that a try tonight!

Follow the instructions to the letter. Make sure you are running Flashcast 1.1.1 on your USB not an earlier version.

Good Evening All,

I'm kyonz, one of the developers from Team Eureka working on Eureka-Rom (and Kyocast being my previous project which was the first to allow non-google apps to run on rooted chromecasts).

I just wanted to come by and say hi and say that if anyone has any questions around the rooting process, what the rom has and offers or anything I'm more than happy to answer any questions!

To the comments earlier around DNS changing, that was one of the things that drew me into rooting the device in the first place - I've since designed a web panel that now runs under Eureka-Rom and allows you to choose from a list of DNS providers (or use DHCP provided ones) easily.

Anyway, if anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask and I'll answer the best that I can.

Good to be here, I may as well just talk about direction of where we are taking the ROM (hopefully not too boring).

It's mine and the rest of Team-Eureka's belief that Google was hamstrung by the media industry with the creation of the chromecast and so we're setting out to try to move it to something closer to how we would have envisioned the devs within Google would want.

In the next update we're looking to increase security of the things we've brought on (introducing credential sets to the web panel etc) as well as bring new unseen levels of customisation by allowing users to alter the homescreen in a number of ways to their liking.

I personally also have plans to bring an 'offline' type mode to the device where it would allow you to use some services without an internet connection (locally casting content to the device). However this is lower on my priority list.

Anyway, that's enough from me for now - once more suggestions, queries, or rants encouraged (I've spent many hours peering over the internals of this system and how it's communication channels work so if anyone has any level of questions ill do my best to answer). I do have a secret project in the works which I can't touch on unless it's over a pint or 2 at this stage but expect to see something from me in the next week or so (outside of Eureka-Rom)

Hi kyonz, [edit: removed a stupid sentence from me: answer was in the link]

Will this work (including installing Flashcast) on Chromecast firmware version: 14975 ?

Thanks.

P.S Nice to see a New Zealander in the dev team for this (Chromecast) project!

Unfortunately the rom version you're on won't let you run it (you can only root devices that are the original build and were never updated as it flashes the bootloader). There's a specific serial number range that support it and they're selling for a mint on ebay ($100us+).

But hey you're in Auckland! I'm in Auckland too! and well my house is beginning to look like the mating population for chromecasts in New Zealand so I'm more than willing to drop off one running the latest release build of the Eureka rom at my cost pricing if you'd like. Err lets put it at $50nzd and maybe a beer if you're that way inclined. (Doesn't come with box or USB power adaptor, I have them stripped in the US so I can fit a ton of CCs in a shipping box haha)

Let me know if you're interested, I'm in a generous mood tonight :) sorry to anyone else reading this it's a one time offer for sonyxperiageek as I feel his plight! (Would have to be next weekend as I'm off to aus tomorrow for a couple of days)

Hi, Thanks very much for your reply and offer, but I think I'll wait this one out as I'm not really needing another Chromecast at the moment.. Thanks again though!

Yep, saw that. You might have seen my tweet about it or in my last night's Day 2 CES 2014 Report. :)

If the price is right and if there is virtually no lag in wireless mirroring (as shown in their video) then it would be pretty neat!

With SonyX unable to take you up on your generous offer would you trade a rooted Chromecast for one that isn't?  I realise it was a one off offer but you don't know if you don't ask ;-)
