nathan: have you been following what these Danish guys are working on doing with AIRTAME?

Yep - I saw that very recently and I am just about to go in for it. At USD100 including international shipping it seems a reasonable price.

I think I will wait till they get to the $750000 point so it gets dual band. At least that means it will hopefully work a lot better. Shame no ethernet on it.

If the Airtame gets the ability to cast from Android I would look at it, but currently its only good for PC use which is not what I need.

Hmm - good points. It has a week to go so may get to $750k, especially now that Engadget has given it a Best Startup of CES2014 award which should raise its profile.

Now that would be great. I see that their Indiegogo page says that if they get to $1 million there will be Android and iOS apps.

You can get the $30 USB to Ethernet adapter add-on.

Now probably drifting OT but I see that in the past 24 hours Airtame has gone from USD601k to USD657k.

kyonz: Good Evening All,

I'm kyonz, one of the developers from Team Eureka working on Eureka-Rom (and Kyocast being my previous project which was the first to allow non-google apps to run on rooted chromecasts).

I just wanted to come by and say hi and say that if anyone has any questions around the rooting process, what the rom has and offers or anything I'm more than happy to answer any questions!

To the comments earlier around DNS changing, that was one of the things that drew me into rooting the device in the first place - I've since designed a web panel that now runs under Eureka-Rom and allows you to choose from a list of DNS providers (or use DHCP provided ones) easily.

Anyway, if anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask and I'll answer the best that I can.

any Miracast support coming or planned for the Team Eureka ROM?

This isn't something we are actively working on, we saw evidence in recent official OTA releases that Google look to be working on this - so unless we reach a point in the near future that this turns out to be the case we will wait for an official release on this.

Unfortunately we have limited resources within our team so we're definitely having to pick and choose what battles we prioritise (and in the last OTA it appeared Google has started taking fire directly at our work and attempting to block us from doing certain things so we are having to use resources to get around these attempts to block our feature sets as well which takes a bunch of time).

Kyonz, I see Google have released the CC SDK, will that help or hinder what you guys are doing?

Yep, the Chromecast SDK has just been released! It will be interesting to see all the possibilities that could expand out of this!

Anyone know if its possible to cast without having a wifi connected to the internet, or directly without an external wifi?

EDIT: Answer is no and no.

I notice that my Cromecast has been a lot more stable since the last update. Before that In was lucky to get more than 15 minutes when cast from the Chrome browser. The only issue I have now is with SkyGo it will start off fine but will some times get a freeze frame but the sound is still there. This seems a Chrome / SkyGo issue not Chromecast..

What's the best free way to stream local content from PC to the CC? Is the best option still just to tab cast?

Try Localcast from the play store
