Have now got a whole lot of of Dimmer 2s setup with PDL Momentary

All working great with a Raspberry Pi4 running homebridge.

However - every now and again a circuit will do a single flicker. I can't see a pattern, and its not the every live circuit.

Anyone else seen this with a similar setup?

Enable debug logging and see what the device logs show when it occurs. It usually reports everything in reasonably good detail.

Do some calibrations. Adjust MAX brightness down.

Does the Shelly click when you circuit flickers?

No it doesn’t click

Not sure how to reduce max brightness, but the flicker happens at different dimming levels

Have calibrated a few times. Doesn’t seem to alter things

I’ll enable logging this evening and try and capture one as it happens.

If you don't get much out of the logs and it doesn't click, I would probably terminate everything again. Make sure it is flawless across the shelly and the switch, including any joiners.

I would often find my joiners were done really poorly, so cut them and twisted from scratch.

Yes, I’ve seen that too, doesn’t happen very often but can be very distracting knowing its less than perfect and sort of waiting for  the flicker to happen.

I did log a ticket with Shelly, but they weren’t very helpful and trying to shift blame onto the led lights, even though I was experiencing the same single flicker on dimmable downlights and dimmable bulbs. The support just fizzled out. They did want me to try to video the flicker! Easier side than done when so random and might be only once or twice a night.

I did buy 4 but have only installed 2 so far, reluctant to install the other 2 for this very reason.

The ones installed have done a firmware update (same time as dealing with support) Possibly slightly better or less frequent, or that could just be wishful thinking.

The Shelly app and configuration possibilities are awesome, just let down by this little flicker otherwise the Dimmer2 would be perfect.

I'd argue that the Shelly app is a PoS - every time I go to open it, it wants to "update files" - couldn't get rid of it fast enough. About the only time I use it now is to set up a new device onto WiFi, then I use MQTT and home assistant to drive them - that has made my user experience with Shelly considerably better.

You don’t even need the app for that, they have a web interface which is much sleeker

HomeKit via homebridge makes the Shelly’s great. Agree the Shelly app isn’t great.

I’m not sure how to interpret the logs. I’ve captured some episodes, anyone know what to look for?

Not to dwell too much on the app, each to their own, once configured, Alexa is my main mode of control…

I too would be more interested if there are others also experiencing the flicker on the dimmer2.

Make sure you're on up to date firmware. And yea, as others have said, the app is trash. Just use the browser and configure there.

I've got 20-odd Halcyon LED downlights on 6 circuits all with a Dimmer2 on them and get zero flicker. Before these downlights one circuit was a random downlight brand I'd never heard of and flickered every now and again. Since swapping to a quality light, happy days. Its almost certainly an issue with the LED driver quality.

I have my Shellys set to trailing edge, and re-calibrated after each firmware update (which I don't do very often at all to be fair).

Shelly support are recommending to try a bypass

Has anyone used one? Do they need an SDOC

Could I use this instead which has an SDOC ?

https://www.halcyonlights.co.nz/product/load-correction-device-%2F-dummy-load-%2F-bypass-8070.htmx

Shelly say I need to use their Bypass but I suspect it’s exactly the same?

Have you tried removing the Shelly from that circuit for a couple of nights? The problem might not be with it at all.

Nah. It’s the Shelly. Had the lights in for a few weeks prior

You should see status changes from 0 to 1 I think in the debug logs when changes occur that the shelly knows about or causes.

Did you remember to turn debug logging off (make sure you do)?

Did you re-terminate? This is the most likely cause if the lights worked fine on their own.
