Meh, 30 seconds to chuck it in the CD tray while I'm doing something else on the lappie. It encodes in the background, downloads the track info & album pix, and dumps the lot in my music collection. Another 30 seconds to put the disk back in its case.
$12/minute saving. Unless your hourly rate is in the neighbourhood of $700, its probably worth the effort. Assuming you were at the Warehouse anyway..

Yep. I have boxes here with about 300 CDs, just to prove the digital content in my HDD is actually legally "format shifted" and not pirated.

itunes is ok but they haven;'t updated their prices for years to reflect the exchange rate.

I used to use vodafones store, as they used to be high quality mp3s(about 256kbps). But thy are now highly compressed (128kbps) when I last used it after they updated their website, compared to itunes.

Amazon MP3 is US 9.49. There are ways to buy it but I won't go into the details.

Generalizing, people in Auckland have to get into a car, drive to The Warehouse, refuel for petrol and then back, I'd say it all adds up. I'm glad I'm not in Auckland at the moment.

To be fair, there are other albums that will cost more in NZD than your example and there will be regional ones that work out to be cheaper. Consumer is king and just shop around.

they design copyright law and did not offer easy method to obtain those songs. many people have succumb to sites like this. just because you 'pay' for it, that does not mean it is legal.

well it would depend totally on the laws of the country where servers are and where company is registered.
there are few russian website full of music, which are legal, but only available for russian residents, because there're special authorities in russian who collects money and distributes it to the rights holders, but service (website) is restricted to the russian residents only.

also there are movie stream services and so on.

I would assume that ukranian laws similar to russian, therefore, statement that site is not legal is totally your assumptions based on NZ laws.

About 5 minutes, including ripping, converting & synching to the device - on pretty much any computer built in the last 2-3 years. With the added advantage of being completely DRM free & in the format and quality of your choosing.

Obviously, I'm not factoring in travel time to actually go and purchase said item, assuming it wasn't an impulse purchase. You could also order online and have the CD shipped to you, possibly paying an additional fee for the privilege (JB Hifi ship for free, which must eat most of their per-CD profit).

I think the bigger issue here is that people are potentially buying 30 Seconds to Mars albums... ;)

There's also amplifier.co.nz - although they don't tend to be very cheap.

Someone did recommend Six60 to me, I shall have to investigate.

The "new" Little Bushmen album, Te Oranga is good too, although their website hasn't been updated to say that it's actually available despite being released almost a year ago.

One option is borrowing, renting, CDs from the public library.

This is not a new complaint but buying music online is way too hard.

I can see almost/hear almost any music I like on YouTube, where is the "Buy this song for $1" button? Such a button downloads the song to your Android devices and records your purchase in your account so if you loose it you don't have to pay again. Seriously, is it that hard to design a new distribution channel?

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?
