LostBoyNZ: I work at Dick Smith and can confirm that the Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi is completely ad free. It's not the sponsored version. $199 is pretty great, it's $187.46 direct from Amazon (just checked myself), and Amazon expect to ship in "2 to 3 weeks".

I agree, and if you buy it for the business it is cheaper, because you can claim back the GST. Not sure how DSE can sell them so cheaply. Would be good if amazon offered a better deal, such as free shipping.

Finally at Amazon checkout.  Is it better to pay in NZ or US dollars at that stage??  Thanks for the help.

Are you putting the right one in your cart, 3G for New Zealand? It shows as US$199 for me. I got that price by adding it to my cart, selecting the shipping and going right through the moment where I'd normally click to finalize the order.

Can anyone answer my question - do we have a choice whether we pay in NZ or US $s at the checkout?  And is it best to pay in NZ $s or US??

Ah ok, I was using Amazon's shipping to NZ as they're cheaper. NZ Post charge $17.25 for a Kindle via YouShop (mentioned by people in GeekZone's topic on YouShop), where as Amazon charge $14.87. So for the non-sponsored 3G version the cheapest is still direct from Amazon, about NZ $260.

However the one you're looking at is the sponsored version, which is $20 cheaper, and Amazon won't ship it overseas themselves. So it's $20 cheaper (the sponsored Kindle is $179 instead of $199) and you use YouShop, bringing the total to about NZ $240.

I believe you do have a choice of currency to pay in. I recommended paying in US because you're likely to get a better exchange rate through your bank than you would from Amazon.

You can always go to the checkout and get to the point where it gives the option of what currency to pay in, compare the two and then compare to the exchange rate your bank would give you.

Do amazon sell the paperwhite as a sponsored version internationally? I didn't think they did, as the two international ones on their website , the wifi and 3g, both appear to be non sponsored.
