I used Element 14 when I purchased an original Raspberry Pi years ago. Was a good experience. My only complaint with the site is that you can get different prices for the same thing. I buy mine from Element14, but they try send me to a local reseller (such as nicegear).

I use mine for Kodi (OpenElec) and ADSB flight tracking (flightaware.com/adsb and flightradar24.com)

Make sure you get an RPi 2, they're so much better than the original.

More premium sites like element14 are faster, but if you're patient China is cheaper.

I recommend eBay and aliexpress. I bought and kitted out a Pi 2 with 16GB class 10 card, wifi adapter, case, power, and XBMC remote for under $70 IIRC just from buying on aliexpress. Took forever to come but was worth the savings as I'm a poor high school student!

CB_24: Looking at getting my first Raspberry Pi(s).

After some sort of starter kit that would let me do a couple of small projects.

Any suggestions of kits to get and places to buy them from?

I have a pi laying around which has barely been used....if you keen to buy?

First you need a USB TV tuner stick (I used these ones), and a suitable antenna. The included antenna works, but isn't very good.

Then you need some software to run, I recommend the Piaware SD card image from flightaware.

It's only worth doing if you have good visibility - ADS-B is line of sight. If you live in a valley it will probably be a waste of time. I have mine sitting on my roof, work's roof, and my dad's roof.

Have bought literally several thousand from Element 14. Just don't ask them to package them inside of a Pi case.. they did each and every one of them incorrectly, but at least they were consistent :D
