I have been looking into over recent years as a building designer. But the whole problem is future proofing it, and not relying on proprietary systems that have been created by companies, that are locked into their system, unless they can be easily replaced. Anything that relies on the cloud and their own third party servers to work, is a major risk, because if that company decides to close down the service, or go out of business you are stuffed. Using systems that use open standards I think are the best. But it just dates so quickly, and for much I can't see a lot of benefit. Remotely turning on lights can be good, but Wemo have systems for that which are simple plugin devices.
