For the Dahua HDW4300C I have 3.6mm lens for outdoor and 2.8mm lens in my garage.

The 2.8mm lens shows a little distortion... But nice wide angle view...

+1 for Dahua
+1 for BlueIris.

I run this combination at my place, my parents and a friends place as well. Not to mention 3 lads from the office also run this combination.

The Dahua IPC-HDBW4300E is my preferred camera at the moment (check AliExpress)

3MP / 1080, Vandal proof dome and the IR coverage is great,.
The dome also seems to deter the creation of spiderwebs etc from triggering activations.
3.6mm Lens is what I use as well as it gives a good balance of focus/zoom with a wider view.

These are approx $US 90. Although they have no warranties as such, neither myself or the above installations have had any issues, for 3 years now.

Quick tip - be sure your PC / Laptop can handle the number of cameras. Quad core is a highly recommended for 4+ of these cameras.

Lastly, spring for the BlueIris mobile App, is definitely worth it!

I don't use any app for viewing/storing of images.

I prefer to use motion sensing and store all captured images off site.

I have found on a couple of my cheapies with the wider lenses, that they still ship with IR boards that are narrow, so at night you get a lit circle in the middle of the image.

UPDATE : purchased 2 x Hikvision DS-2CD2032F-I ,excited!!!
Got 1 x 4mm lens and 1 x 6mm lens.

Next is a POE switch, see there's some cheap ones on ebay for like $22nzd. 5port

Would appricate is someone would comment on the techno rave it gives . Gives the appearance that it will do every thing as well as pell a banana , but is it any good ....thanks

Not sure on the overpriced part, But for sure on the junk part

The cameras that are about US$9 each, the DVR about $40. Cables US$7 a piece. So without a drive or power supply you are at $180 US for that stuff. Allow NZ $100 for a HDD and also add a PSU and the price isnt a complete ripoff for a local retailer. Assuming it is local which you never know with those crap daily deal sites.

The thing is, for a little more you could do a _LOT_ better with IP stuff. 720P POE cameras are about US$25-30, then you can use cat5 you get locally, which is much easier to get thru walls and stuff. Choose an appropriate camera for the job instead of those crappy dome ones that the kit comes with. If you are happy to power them locally then its a little less, and you dont have to worry about getting a powered switch or NVR.

Decide what cameras you need, and then buy the appropriate ones rather than just thinking you have to stuff 8 of them around the place because you have a kit of 8 and have to worry about cable length etc. Just dont buy that kit and then find you have 3 cameras installed, and 5 that you cant because they arent the right type.

FYI the 4300E is an old model and hasn't been manufactured by Dahua for quite a few months now. The only sellers you'll find with it are the little guys or those who buy from other big resellers and still have stock.

The good news is the 4MP stuff has replaced it at the same price (not necessarily on Ali Exp because most Dahua sellers on there are just out to make money) and the 4421 has the 3 axis mount now which was the major limitation of the old 3MP kit.

If you get the cheap ones, you need to disable the "cloud" feature and turn off upnp as well, they will request port openings from the router to them, and then have who knows what security problems on them. If you want to remote view VPN in and use the standard viewing app.

Google for ray sharp DVR exploit and see how bad the code on the cheap gear is, no way you want it exposed to the internet or you will become another DDOS/spam host or similar.

I will be purchasing the fantastic blue iris software, android app and windows.

Features :
- Indoor and outdoor cameras
- Amazing night vision
- Amazing quality

- POE would be great, but not essential

What do you guys have?
