I have a Samsung S5, and the sliding tray seems to press all all the side buttons - Volume and screen-off. Made for a bit of a frustrating experience. There was a bit of foam tape in the box - I assume that might be for lifting the side buttons away from the carrier.

Not sure how to do any alignment, as the google cardboard app keeps asking for a VR code to change the viewer. Couldn't find a VR code on the headset ?

Couldn't get the remote to work properly at all. Had no idea what mode to use it in - player or key mode.

I used VRTV Free - it was the first app that popped up on the play store. Dunno if it's a good one or not.

I sort-of played a couple of TV shows, a few minutes each, as a 2D side by side - I was impressed by the immersive quality, but using the headset for navigation was tricky.

Yes, the foam pads are put in the holder to stop the buttons from being pressed

You can Google the VR codes for cardboard but it doesn't make any difference - use the sliders on the top of the goggles to set the pupil distance.  I found that setting the lenses back as far from the eyes worked best for me.

For content, use google cardboard or YouTube.  On YT look for VR 360 split screen - there is a funny animation with a rabbit that's a good starter.

As said, the remote is very tricky.  Charge it up first.  move the switch to the key mode.  I can't remember the setting as I don't have it at work; what I remember there are two Android modes - I think use mode 2 from memory (I'll check tonight).  To set Mode 2, turn it on pressing both the power/play button (the smallest) and the button it tells you to use for mode 2 (IIFC its the one at the bottom of the remote).  For YT I tend to just use the small play pause button - other navigation is a nightmare and is easier to remove the holder from the goggles, find the clip/film, pause it, put it back in the goggles and press the play button.  The timeout is short so you may need to press and hold the play button for 2-5 seconds for it to turn back on and BT sync then the play button will work again.

Trick for new players; practice using the remote when the phone is not in the VR goggles - otherwise it becomes a very frustrating process.  Once you are happy with navigation - use the goggles.

The phone should be set in the middle of the holder for maximum effect.
