Another vote for the Bose. You will only notice deficiencies in sound quality if you are an audio nut with a very high quality source.

Back story ----  When the wife and I visit Canada (13hr flight to Vancouver). My wife always somehow she ends up with "my" Sony NC Headphones.

So at a shop in Canada....looking around at the headphones....innocent me---  not planning to buy anything (tbh).

I made the mistake of putting on a pair of the Bose QC35 (thinking hahaha Bose...lets try em ...how good could they be?).

I wasn't really thinking of buying a pair of headphones.....I put them on and it was like walking into a quiet room...then I listened to some music. Bought them on the spot!

Oddly enough... I wear them around the house when I am using my Dyson..and when on the ride -on mower.

I have the Bose QC35 headphones. I love them.

I paid $450 new, from a Geekzone member. I always use them on Bluetooth, and the battery lasts for ages... I think I have only charged them about 4 times - ever!

I used to keep looking at headphones in shops and on Trademe and contemplate purchasing some good ones, now I don't bother anymore - my Bose QC35's meet all of my needs!

My only complaint is a very faint background hiss, which is covered over by any music that plays.  I am no audiophile, but I think the sound quality is great. Certainly better than anything I have owned before!

I could never go back to headphones without noise cancelling, or to wired phones again, the freedom of no wires - great.

I have no regrets.

Has anyone been able to get the Sony mdr1000x. Apparently they're up to Bose qc35 standard, but either so popular or marketing ploy, you can't get them in NZ till after May this year

Go for the Bose QC35.  Superb in terms of comfort and noise cancelling.

I have used low end Philips noise cancelling ear buds for inflight use, as it was heaps better than the free normal ones that the airline provides.

Off topic:   Singapore Airlines previously provided on- ear headsets in cattle class, which they dutifully collected towards the end of the flight, but now they provide

nasty ear buds. I suppose they are so cheap and cheerful that they dont bother to collect them after the flight!

From personal experience , I can recommend the blackbox M10 but the cans look a bit bulky, but great after sales support. ( got free replacement when the head band broke when they were out of warranty)

For portability I have the Audio Technica ATH-ANC33iS QuietPoint® but now use the Bose QC35 even at work.

Have a listen to Bose QC35 and I am sure you will be converted like many others in this forum.

cheers

No, but they look so good .  My son bought them in the UK, after looking at the QC35 as well.  He likes the 2 features where you can skip tracks

muting the sound by placing your fingers or hand on the cup.  (Hope you know what I am talking about!)

I bought these in November from Sony Sylvia park and love them. It was between these and QC35 but decided to go with Sony in the end.

Thanks a lot for all the reviews and suggestions. This has been really helpful.

I know that and used to think that Bose 25's/35's are overall the best NC out there, but after trying both Sony MDR-1000x and Q35s in parallel yesterday at Sylvia park, I have to say the Sony's are right up there, if not better.

The only issue with Sony is that they are a bit bulky (compared to QC35's) and takes a little effort to setup. But the sound quality (the lows and mids) are a notch better then the Bose's.

I have been offfered the Sony MDR-1000x for $420 new, right now.

What do you guys think?

PS: I know im going to get a lot of flack for not buying the Bose's xP

Flack? It's your money, so buy whatever suits you and not what suits anyone else. I'm sure it won't make a massive difference which option you choose. Enjoy!

I think the Sonys will be a good choice too, they just don't have the tried and tested status the Bose do yet.

That's a good price - I'd take them. I have the Bose because up till the end of last year they have had the best noise cancellation, which I thinks trumps sound quality in NC headphones, but the new Sony's have been well reviewed and are a fine alternative.

I did!!

Now a happy owner of Sony MDR-1000x's. :) I really like the hand pause feature so that you don't have to take the headphones off.

I'm keen to see how they will perform on the flight though.

My wife is going to kill me that I bought this instead of going on a weekend trip with her. :/

Ur right. Don't know why though. You can buy them in States or Europe. Weird.

Although ETA may, they are on sale at Sony sylvia park for $599 (down down a ridiculous $799). Sony Sylvia park store has upto 40% off headphones atm.

Yes, you probably will receive a bit of flack for that decision!

Strange, I was in there about 2 weeks ago and they said "out of stock, next shipment May".  If Parallel have them for $420 I think I might pop over next weekend. Thanks
