IMO its going to look aweful, just but some RGB let bulbs for lamps and be done with it. Tiktok is a fad, it will pass.

Ive done 15m of some similar lights of ali express and they will be dim by the end of the run.

This is what I ended up doing. Just waiting for the LED bulbs to arrive. Managed to convince my son that a clean glow would be better than tiny bright lights.

There is quite a big market in the US for LED strip for boats up to several metres in length. I have 4m lengths in my boat, in soft red for fishing at night.

You can get colour shifting LED strip with control units that dim and change colour and some are cell phone controllable.  You would need a power supply.

If it's a tiktok thing aren't there already 10,000 "how I did my lights" out there?

I have a pre-teen daughter wanting the exact same thing, and I'll need the same amount, 15m. Is there any updated advice on this? Some of the links on this thread are no longer valid. It looks like mainly there is 5m lengths available locally. There is an absolute ton on Amazon AU but I'm not sure exactly what is what over there.

EDIT - I don't particularly need them to be smart or wifi enabled but that would be a bonus.

My advice is unchanged, but you may wish to consider continuous LED strips such as those below...

This isn't a recommendation, and I've not used this type of strip myself, but I think the continuous strip would look much nicer than dotty LED strips. The normal strips are great when you can diffuse the light, but close to walls the dots tend to be noticeable.

I ended up going with these from Ali Express:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001279791197.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.21ef1802RLBDNV

They were only about $30 all up and came as 3x 5m rolls. I got the bluetooth version. I clipped them together and had no issues with loss of light along the length. Yes, they are very dotty, but my 12 year old didn't mind at all.

It he decides he wants to keep them and the "dotty-ness" starts to bug you there are plenty of Aliex sellers that have diffuser tubes to tone it down a bit ...

Ahh ok, so they came in 5m lengths but you just joined 3 together? Did they come with joiners?

Yep, the beginning and end of each 5m roll have connectors that clip into each other.
