Apparently there's issues with shipping companies from the states. Nate from konnected have suggested I purchase from smartguys AU - shipping is closer to $20

Did you ever get a response to this? Getting less and less impressed by the AAP/Elite alarm, it's been false triggering at random but I have no idea what or where because any attempt to view alarm events just times out, so I don't even have an alarm that works at the moment because if I enable it it'll false trigger at some point.

And I had a look at the network traffic to see if that would provide clues as to why it wasn't able to display any events: It absolutely hammers a hardcoded list of NTP servers 24/7 (to the extent that it's practically a denial-of-service attack if every AAP alarm is doing this), and yet the keypad panel can't even get the time right. Assuming the panel doesn't just randomly disconnect.

i had issues where mine false triggered and it was due to not enough current for the alarm. We doubled up the power lead from the main panel to the sub panel and it sorted it out.

Was that to the keypad panel? That might explain why it keeps reporting it's disconnected and then reconnected.

After further exploring, I still couldn't find out why it's triggering, the app just times out trying to fetch events and the keypad-display log has completely wrong times despite the constant barrage of NTP requests so I can't correlate what happened when. Eventually by having the phone next to me over a period of several hours I saw it was Zone 1, however I can't disable that in order to set the alarm because there's a second disabled zone already present and when I disable Zone 1 in the app it re-enables the other zone. Conversely, when I re-disable the other zone it re-enables Zone 1 again. My guess is that the app updates all the zones rather than just the one you're changing, which means the one you change gets the setting applied and everything else gets reset to default.

If this is the best alarm type you can get in NZ I'd hate to see what the worst ones are like...

one alarm panel we removed the power supply and its being supplied from the other panels power supply via the cat5 communication cable between them. the single wire wasn't able to carry the current for the panel so we joined 2 of the wires together and its been fine since.

is yours an IP panel? can you login to the panel via a browser to check the log?

Wow, that sounds complicated. Mine's just a single alarm + keypad panel, but since it's been reporting keypad disconnects I'll see if it's a power-related thing. Alternatively, if someone else has one is it normal to have the keypad disconnect and reconnect frequently?

It's an IP panel, or at least there's an IP module fitted to the alarm, but there's no way to access the logs that I can see, or in fact do much of anything except toggle a few config options.

i wanted to have one system so i could control both zones, house and garage, which was newly built, and there was only 1 spare cat 5 cable going between them. We ummed and ahhhed for a while about how to do it but this way has worked great thus far.

Hammering NTP servers is a sign that it is not actually receiving the NTP replies. As is the keypad not getting the correct time. If you can, check that NTP replies are actually getting through to the alarm, or at least leaving your router on the LAN side. There is a lot of software around that does strange things if it does not have the correct time, or if it keeps on getting time adjustments happening.

Definitely getting out and back, the logs show an outgoing NTP packet and incoming NTP response from and to the alarm, ntp1.anu.edu.au and time.nist.gov, interspersed and often overlapping (so it queries both the NIST and ANU servers at the same time).
