Just called up again, got through to someone decent at least this time.  But same promises of escalating it to the sales manager, couldn't get through to the cancellation team.

This guy did make me feel hopeful though like he's actually going to do something about it and not just ignore me and hope I go away like the last few.

but yeah.... never ever ever sign up to this company.

Its time you contacted the Banking Ombudsman over this (bankomb.org.nz).  If you have the equivalent of a direct debit authorisation on your CC you can most certainly cancel it.  The banking ombudsman complaint will get your card issuer's attention, usually at a fairly senior level.  Do this ASAP.

We had a similar problem with a gym chain, bank wouldnt help , gym not communicating, one scathing review on their social media pages and wham got a phone call from the chain involved and the issue was solved.

How long does it take to cancel an account???  seriously.  10 days, and nothing.

So yeah, don't sign up with them, save yourself the headache.   They seem to be a scam.

That reads like an overreaction. 10 day delay, must be a scam?

More constructively, what alternatives to ADT and alarm.com are there in NZ?

(ADT was a very convenient and cheap upgrade to my old alarm system, about 10 years ago, changing just the controller to give app access to the alarm system. But, their fee seems steep now.)

Errr.. in this day and age, if you cant just call up (really it should be web based) to cancel your account.  Be told, the cancellation team is busy every time, will call you back, and call about 6 times, email about 20 times and get no response.

I wouldn't call that an overraction.    I would call that company a scam.

It might be lazy business practises, it might be terrible processes. What it's not however, is a scam.

@reven have you had any luck getting any replies? I've had nothing from my multiple emails over the past weeks but wondering whether its even worth phoning them if no one is bothering to answer.

I got through to the cancellation team on Friday finally.   They said they would cancel and send confirmation, I am still waiting on confirmation.

Emails seem to go absolutely nowhere.

I think my account is cancelled, no confirmation from them.  My login just stopped working and I can no longer access the app.

So... yeah I think its canceled.

You may find the mini-SIM card interesting...
No data
No voice calls
But... SMS support

And a nonstandard 027 number.

Cool.  Any particular pointers to get it cancelled?  Is there a specific department? I've not had much luck!

Surely with the way everything is going online, if a company offers the ability to sign on/ join online you must be able to cancell/close online too....

Should be easy to pass this law surely. No politics involved?

along with a complaint.

I too am interested in a solution to replace my ailing Morepork system. None of the cameras work but given there is only one door to the property the door sensors are very useful. The SMS functionality is a useful backup. All the current (easy-to-install) DIY monitoring solutions seem to rely on WIFI.
