PSA: DO NOT RUN A SMART PLUG AT 10A FOR A SUSTAINED PERIOD OF TIME!

I've seen multiple examples on the EV communities of smart plugs internally melting due to sustained load. A regular wall socket can also melt internally at a sustained load of 10a also if it isn't terminated correctly, or is a cheaper plug (also seen multiple examples of this).

If you're going to be using this smart plug to charge your EV then always set your charging amperage to 8a or lower.

@PSLog I did see you mention you charge it at a lower amperage so you should be fine but this is a PSA for everyone else before getting a smart plug. I would personally recommend something a little better than a Tuya based smart plug or even investing in a proper EVSE but I'll leave this one up to you.

I have come to the same conclusion , but I am wondering what you would recommend , I just don't trust those sockets for much but the washing machine , dryer etc .  I have quite a few and set conditions to alert me when the drop below 11ma to alert me the washing machine is done or the dryer .   I really want the same for my EV , I got a perfectly good charger with the car but it lacks some functions Tuya will totally resolve.

What kind of car + what kind of charger have you got?

You could use a smart plug if you limit charging to 8a and not the full 10a but for an EV I would personally go for an EVSE if you own the house. Sure, they're way more expensive but they're also safer and have smarts.

40kw leaf just a fairly dumb 6a or 8a switchable charger , I have seen tuya 16a breakers but none seem to be nz compliant . The speed of the charge is fine it's the lack of convenience to look after the battery that irks me
