I have the Pro 3 set up.

The base unit local recordings are only to a USB connected hard drive or stick not to a network drive.

I run the front door camera to the cloud for $4.99/month - the others are all to the local USB drive. Thats been solid. Also use an Arlo door bell connected to that camera.

A config like this may be an option rather than re-investing depending on your requirements.

Zones only work if fully powered unless connected to the subscription by the way……

Thanks :)

Can you access local recordings from the App remotely?

I havent - but says you should be able to achieve that via port forwarding or VPN on router……

I installed Aliexpress ONVIF/NetIP protocol cameras plus a compatible NVR.  About $80/camera (wired, 4K, face/object identification AI) shipped and a little more for the NVR.  Chucked an old 2TB drive in it, when that dies I'll buy a proper survelliance drive.  Another ~$50 for a cheap PoE switch.

Not the most polished system but no matter what the cloud does I can still get to my recordings.

I wish I'd realised I could set the NVR to English *before* configuring it...

I'm using a Eufy Homebase 2 with 2 x EufyCam 2C and 2 x Eufy Cam 2 Pros (outside for their night vision) plus the security alarm pad, room sensors and door sensors.  This provides me with a classical alarm system with cameras.  I then pay for the cloud storage to backup further.  The system has foibles such as the cameras set the alarm off as they're not linked to the arm/disarm delay and some other odd things.  Homebase 3 has more stuff including more local storage but appears to be troublesome right now and stupidly doesn't have wifi for the base unit, only ethernet!

So far I am happy with Eufy and good enough for my needs.

So note these aren't perfect, and I'm running them on a separate VLAN, and haven't quite sorted the access over VPN because the current Tailscale for android doesn't work with self-hosted control planes (sigh).  I ordered one of each, and have since ordered an extra bullet & dome unit.  They use the XMEye Pro app.  The NVR discovers the cameras as long as they're on the same LAN.  I got the Wifi camera working over the LAN, then configured wifi by installing that camera's app showing it a QR code which encodes the wifi SSID and password.

XMeye is the only cheapies I have had constant good results with the image from, whereas some of the other ones I have had them just forget to change exposure between day and night or drop off the stream all the time. If you are not wanting to spend much then the XMeye cameras work really well but I dont trust them with internet access.

eol dates have been pushed back, cameras and dates of eol here: https://kb.arlo.com/000063018/Arlo-Legacy-Cameras-End-of-Life

Security updates will continue for 1yr after going eol

Interestingly eol doesn’t apply to UK & EU.

According to CEO 7 day free cloud storage is not going eol https://twitter.com/mbmcrae/status/1624122173144305667?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1624122173144305667%7Ctwgr%5Eea6fa0f882ea7f173ce5d022be5a0c41e90940c3%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.androidpolice.com%2Farlo-backtracks-end-of-life%2F

Funnily enough my Arlo 1 system is still going without any EOL issues :)

Received an email overnight stating this.

I wonder if the overwhelming user feedback was along the lines of “you b….rds, I’ll never buy another one of your products again”.

The 75% off any subscription offer is a good mea culpa though.

Despite the backtrack from Arlo I am still considering changing over to Eufy, and probably the Homebase3 system. What exactly is troublesome about it?

I am aware it doesnt have the built-in battery backup like Homebase2, but wasnt aware of the non-wifiness, but thats not an issue for me as the HB3 would replace the Arlo base which has a cable to it already.

Are there other issues?
