Personally, one thing I want to avoid with HA is 'lock-in'. I like Shellys and things like that because I can add them to my PDL light switches, or any other bog standard light switch.

 

I don't know what protocol this product uses but if it has a Home Assistant integration that would be a big positive.

PDL Wiser is the direct competitor to this.  Doesn't require a DIN mounted module and instead uses a plug-in (USB power plus ethernet/WiFi) device.

 

 

That also means that the gateway is subject to people removing it to plug other things in, taking it when they leave the house and all sorts of other things that I can see the fixed options being a preferable option for many installs.

 

It can be made "fixed" by mounting it to the wall, flush.  The modules can also operate without the hub albeit bluetooth only to your phone.
