Maybe the routines are now running on your pixel device.

You may have misread. I don't have anything pixel.

I have an oppo. Running home. Like a sane person
I have a Lenovo smart clock/speaker (assistant enabled). A popular device.
It runs (ran) native media alarms via assistant. You could snooze it, it self stopped. Smack it to stop. Etc.
It still plays the same statio/media if you ask it via voice.

Google has taken away built in media alarms and say 'use routines '

I've created routines on home (you can even do this on a website) of various methods.

They /sometimes/ run using the test button beside the routine. 30s to over an hr delay to run.
Sometimes instant.

Yet leave it to trigger at the assigned time that is in that very routine. They do not start. Or if it does 13mins too late if lucky.

The difference? I'm not clicking test/play.
Something is inherently wrong with either the cloud system or my routine.

Which is why I was asking the hive mind to sanity check their routines to compare and confirm it's the operation and not my fault.

So some testing.
Spoken standard home app morning routine (set to device requested on) works as expected when last task is play radio

But the moment you change it to a set time, which enables device to play on selection and chose the clock

Kaput. Evem using the run now play button.

And just as I'm about to write it off, one of those run now routine tests starts (some 8mins later from last attempt) And its missing the good morning stuff so presumably the single task one I made.

Earlier this evening without any mods it was back to not responding to test at all. So factory reset and joined. Re-created the routines again and none ran.

So no idea why at 2155 it suddenly decided to start again.

Get the feeling its not the routine Afterall and most certainly a broken ecosystem since it doesn't come from google/nest.

And to think built in alarms were so simplistic and reliable.

Side note.. the standard 'good morning ' also has a sorry I don't understand. That would be 'tell me about my commute'. Also one of the removed features it seems.

Test button reliability of existing routine just increased tenfold suddenly.

The moment I toggled casting off..

10mins later and they don't again

Hmmm, my Lenovo Smart Clock is still waking me up by playing the radio (at least it did this morning). I haven't changed the alarm since I set it a year or so ago.

Is this a case of if it's already set up then it will continue working but if you try to set it up again then it won't work?

Quite possibly.

It's always been a bugbear trying to pause or turn it off/on on days without it reverting to tone only.

I've had days where I needed to recreate it and had to change the terms totally. Media alarm stopped, but you could ask it to play x radio stations on weekday and it would.

Now nada.
The catalyst about when I tried was seeing a browser suggestion for the google changes.
And trying to adjust it for anzac day.

Suddenly I'm in the nope boat

Ah, luckily I went to a dawn parade on Anzac Day so I didn't bother turning the alarm off.

I did too! It was trying to plot an earlier one that ended up tone only with the warning that got my ears perked.

So it went off this morning. When I set it for 630.. at about 652.

So might work. But with a hell of an uncontrolled start delay

Conveniently timed/It's like they had a hint it was changing... /S

The google clock for android update now allows you to chose Spotify, YouTube music or local files as media alarm. A new change is to schedule them more than 24hrs in advance

And can auto run a home routine from the app on dismiss. No good for choosing to do that on an external device like the smart clock. But guess thats an excuse of making phones capable.

So after setting a routine and then leaving it alone. No test runs during the day etc. It does kinda work.

Turns out google doesn't appear to like non round numbers however.

Set it for 650 like the native alarm use to be. Nada. Set it for 630... a lot more promising. May lose one day in every 15-20. Even on days when the notification of start (enabled for debug) says it has. It may not.

So presumably there's some form of disconnect between the app/cloud starting it. And TuneIn actually being able to start.

In the mean time, I have a semi-soft wake with lights and radio when it does work. With the loud backup vibrating phone nearly 30mins later to say you REALLY gotta be up now.
