You are complaining your 15 year old kindle is being EOL? Can you name another company that supports their products for that long? I'd be taking the 100% opposite approach and saying I'd never again buy another brand of device, given I got 15 YEARS out of my first one.

I feel you are being quite unreasonable OP, but by all means switch to another provider if that suits you. If you can find one that can guarantee you 10 years of support let alone last you 10 years I'll eat a dog biscuit.

Support as in updates etc not required. But you should still be able to use it for its intended purpose of purchasing and reading books. They are actively cutting that off.

My understanding is you can continue to read books on it fine. You can also use third party software to upload books to it.

They mention a compensatory discount code... that doesn't work on the Australian Amazon store and we can't purchase from the USA store.

There is a better than average chance they are complying with new security standards. Seems reasonable to me.

Doesn't prevent you from reading your existing content as far as I know.

Just stay of Wi Fi, if it is anything like the new Kindle it will wipe all your side loaded books soon as you connect to Amazon, i havent been on WI Fi for months

Common sense is not as common as you think.

You can continue to read books on the device but you can’t download new books and I’m pretty sure that includes the email gateway for pdfs.

Perfectly reasonable, 15 years ago root certificates were 1024bits long, now they are 2048bits long I am guessing this is coinciding with that this year 1024bit certificates can no longer be purchased

If you want to throw blame around start with the certificate issuers who retire old (and no longer considered secure) standards

I don't think I have purchased a book from Amazon for my Kindle in more than five years (although I do reglularly purchase books from other sources).
As a Linux user I have been using Calibre to manage, convert and upload purchased books to my Kindle for more than ten years.
Pretty sure Calibre is availabe for other operating systems.

Doesn't obsessing about security certificates on an ebook device seem a little silly?

Right up there with putting a capcha gateway in - to prevent some rando paying my tolls for me...
