Zippity: Rushed out??

What a load of rubbish.

Oops, sorry zippity for implying something negative about the Touch......

Ordered my K4 from Amazon as DSE out of stock here in Hamilton and delivery from Amazon on Priority International probably quicker than their restock plus over $30 cheaper Smile. Should be here by the weekend.

Glad to see others recognise the benefit of the base model as simply a book replacement. If you want more maybe a tablet might suit your needs better?

What would be really interesting would be feedback from someone who has had a K3 or K4 and who now has a Touch. The screens are apparently almost indistinguishable from each other and that person would be able to give us a good hands-on report on the comparison, and particularly on how they have found the Touch in terms of the quality of the screen implementation. There's plenty in the reviews online but a local geekzone report would be great.

PS: apologies for posting previously without introducing myself as a new member here. I'm not a geek of course Wink, but rather a gadget freak (according to my wife). This forum looks great for a knowledge base of info to tap into.

Cheers

Yeah it is really impressive just how quick they can get them to NZ. Wish all things from overseas could be delivered as quickly, in fact even within NZ at times.

You used the default shipping method? (tis a bit confusing as I seem to recall the default is cheaper and faster while the second is more expensive and slower..)

I ordered one for my mother-in-law last Wednesday, and received it Tuesday morning (after the long Waitangi weekend holiday). So it was only three business days.

My account is set up to use International Priority shipping as a default. The unit was shipped ex-China to Hong Kong then Auckland by DHL.

I guess it may depend on what unit you order?

Best packaged anything I've bought - even beats Apple packaging!

The K4 has a real quality solid feel to it with a slightly rubberised feeling finish to the rear panel. Turned on, plugged in and it was preloaded with my registration for Amazon - impressive. It's easy to de-register if you want to assign another user's account. The side buttons are a treat to use for turning pages - don't think I'd like the touch screen any more, and possibly a lot less, but never having used one I can't say.

The onscreen keyboard is a bit of a pain and cumbersome to enter more than a few words, but I don't expect I'll be doing much of that.

The experimental web browser works but you'd never use it unless it was all you had available to you.

For the price it is amazing value.

Ex China? Did you buy from our Amazon Kindle order page or somewhere else?

Every single Kindle I bought to date (about seven or eight) came from the US via DHL.

Definitely from the  Amazon.com Kindle order page. Not via Geekzone as I wasn't a member until this week and was unaware of it (sorry)

Amazon do keep stock of some units here at the DHL Office in Mangere. It's how they get them here so quick.

Hmmm. It may be the case, but all my orders actually came from the US - first because I tracked them, second because they also almost always had other items that couldn't possibly be available in a local warehouse (such as kids books with a "only 4 available" or kids shoes).

Kids shoes are very handy to buy from Amazon - they deliver those and much cheaper than buying from a store here in New Zealand.

Here's the DHL tracking record (I think times are local):

Don't think it came from Mangere Wink

DSE are taking advance bookings for the kindle Touch (Wifi model) for delivery early March at a cost of NZ$249.

The same item from Amazon, is NZ$189 including postage.
