Pretty decent price too, NZD $188 shipped (Using Amazon currency conversion which often has bad rates).

Or $200 NZD with priority international courier, of course this final costs will fluctuate a bit with currency.

Edit: To get a kindle touch special offers shipped through a freight forwarder the final cost ends up similar to this one at around $190 NZD due to a higher shipping charge than amazon. Good to see amazon continuing to charge fair shipping rates on Kindles.

Yes, Amazon sent out an email a couple of days ago announcing if officially.

Updated the Amazon Kindle order page on Geekzone to reflect it, updated image too (was showing the old non-touch Kindle.

I have the older 3G Keyboard Kindle, and to be honest after reading reviews, I think I'll stick with the one I have.

The only reason for a touch model would be more screen space and it's not improved at all or much.

Good decision for now IMHO.

After much research (and no hands-on) I have decided not to get the Touch - it is clearly in beta form now. Maybe rushed out to catch the pre-xmas US sales? The touch responsiveness is a bit patchy from what I've read - slow and not crisply responsive. Uses an infrared grid. After great capacitive smartphone screens it would frustrate the living ...... oout of me.
No landscape mode either.
And comparing to a Kindle Fire?! - Apples and oranges. The fire is a tablet with all the strengths and weakness of that genre (weight, battery life, screens harder to tolerate for long periods.

If you simply must have a touch model wait for the next version imo.

Also: lack of audio, MP3 and games, "only" enough memory for 1400 books instead of twice that - all these things mean nothing to me. All I want is a small snappy e-reader - the Kindle 4 is the one for me - it's quicker, slicker, lighter, smaller - no frills sharp reader - perfect! And cheap as chips too.

Yip I am loving mine. For me a ereader is a replacement for a book. It does not need to be touch screen or have sound as long as it does what it is designed to do which is allow me to read books comfortably. If others want the extra bits then that if fine, enjoy!

It is good news that the options are opening up though. Good on Amazon for getting the touch available so quickly. Hopefully they will follow with the Fire soon.

I just bought a touch for my partner - new baby and she wants to be able to rad one handed. Kindle is better than either a book or iPad for this.

Looked at amazon and thought why not get the touch???
