Does anyone else's bridge keep going offline? Mine will work fine for a few days then I try dim lights and milight app says it's offline.

I then power it off and on and I can't reconnect my lights. Have to do a full factory reset and go through the process again

A junk power supply? I'm just using the supplied usb cable and plugging it into a usb wall outlet. Wouldn't think there's much to go wrong :s

Output from early/cheap AC USB outlets can be below par especially if the device you're plugging in has no input conditioning. Use a smartphone cable plugged into a PC/router for a few days, if the problem persists you know it's a faulty bridge.

Last weekend I put my beeping lights into a desk lamp and they still beep.

Downloaded a spectrum analyzer app and there is a spike at 4 kHz and it's harmonics to about -70 dB on its scale at its worst. Both of the new white ones are about the same.

Mine is doing this. I don't need to factory reset, I just power cycle and its fine. What power supplies are you guys using? I'm using a 1A supply - this was based on the bridge manual but I noticed on the bridge it says 500ma

Ive switched to another 1A supply so ill see how that goes.

Mine does this from time to time. My solution was to put a cheap 24 hour timer on the plug and have it drop the power for 2 min at approx. 4:30am. Just force a reboot of the device at a time when I'm very unlikely to be using it.

My first bridge would occasionally drop off but since I got the latest bridge its been fine and has not dropped in the 30+ days since I plugged it in

Its powered via my routers USB port

Yeah I agree, the bridge 4.0 has been our best wifi module to date, I have seen it even reconnect itself after a router reboot and even reconnects after power outages on its own. to be honest it still has patchy wireless-N support, wireless-G is excellent, not sure if that is because of the bridge or patchy wireless-n routers.

Anyone figure out how to use the wireless bridge externally from the local network? I liked being able to switch my home lights on from work before leaving, but can't seem to figure out how to do this with the new bridge.

You would need a 'lights' server on your local network that is Internet-visible (i.e. fixed IP that your ISP will route to). Maybe you could set up your DHCP server to always give a fixed Internet-visible IP to the Wifi bridge... that might be enough to control the light from your phone. Otherwise, if you have a webserver or whatever with a fixed IP, that would be the obvious place to put your lights server. Some software on that would accept HTTP (or whatever) commands and send them out via WiFi.

Whilst this would be ubercool, I don't have time on my hands to set this up, so, personally, I'd drive home and *then* switch the lights on from my phone, once within WiFi range.

The thing is the old bridge and app let you just forward the port and put your ext ip or dynamic host name in the app.

New app detects the new bridges on the same layer 2 and has no way to enter an ip or host name and port to send to.

Actually it is a feature that is supported from within the native APP. The only precondition is that your router is able to broadcast the UDP data packets information send to it from an external network back to your wifi bridge.
In some cases that happens automatically. If your router prevents the data (router security policy or firewall), then you need to do some additional steps:
Find the IP your wifi bridge has received on the router (see devices-tab on router, and see dhcp IP for a bridge device with a MAC address that is nearly simmilar to the one listed in your APP, note that the last MAC address digit will be different). Once you found the IP, make a UDP port-forward from external UDP port 8899 to the bridge IP + port 8899 (see port forwarding tab on your router).

Hi nate, its programmed to detect it on first load of the app, so you just need to close down the app fully, and re-open it. not just press home, but actually fully ending the app, then you will get the World icon indicating a connection.
