Thats enough for me :) Just wanna DX rather than 6"

Then sort by the kind of books you're actually interested in (for me that's Fiction) and suddenly you're down to 141,000. Then after weeding out the rubbish you're not left with a heck of a lot really.

Well I set up a fake US account and it works as expected. I can now get books from the US (haven't purchased anything yet but can get the US restricted book samples sent to my iPhone). I can just use the gift certificate work around if I want to purchase anything.

But honestly the whole thing is a turn off. I shouldn't have to use inane workarounds to buy stuff from them.

For comparison the US Kindle store has 668,869 kindle books and 241,865 of those are fiction.

The books are also a couple of dollars cheaper in the US store as well.

If I were to purchase the DX through yankee friend, to try and avoid custom charges is it best to put "Gift" or suchlike when he package/sends it?

Bit the bullet and bought the Kindle DX. Have gotten it shipped to a friend in Aussie who is going to send it onto me :)

Received email from Amazon with ditty about the Kindle. Apparently its registered to the amazon account that you purchased it with....so looks like Im gonna have to add a fake US address to my account to download US content. If I create a NEW amazon account I would have to deregister the kindle with my account and register it on fake NEW one.

Blame their local telco partner. Amazon started selling the Kindle DX worldwide about a year ago, and didn't sell to New Zealand.

Remember, the Kindle 3G comes with an account with worldwide roaming. You can imagine some local telco didn't quite work well with Amazon and things didn't progress. You could buy a Kindle and send to Vietnam, but not here.

I won't say it seems to be the same telco who appears had lots of problems during the launch of a much hyped iPhone 4...

By the way, some people bought their device through our Amazon Kindle page. Thanks a lot! Appreciate if you spread the word and the link...

Isn't it really easy to deregister the kindle? On the iphone app it takes like 5 seconds.

Really close to ordering one as well- will make sure to do so through the geekzone link.

I nearly bought a Sony Reader while I was in the States, after reading this thread, I'm glad I didn't.

I got a Barnes & Nobel nook instead.

I like the hardware, and the hoops you go to to buy books from B&N aren't all that problematic.

When you create a B&N account, you just need to use a valid US address (not that hard, although I have relatives to help with that...). B&N accept international credit cards, and they don't check the billing address.

As far as buying books, B&N only use IP address checking, so using a US based proxy/vpn service is all you need to do to buy books from the website. The nook can then download books directly from B&N through Wi-Fi.

Ok question for those who have ordered... Did you include a power adapter? Why can't I get the AU power adapter for $5? I only seem to be able to add the Europe or British one for that price?

Or can I use something like the ipod adapter?

It seems they are out of stock of the AU power adapters.

I didnt order one as I have one when I bought my iphone. They appear to be exactly the same.

Ordered mine today - no estimated delivery as yet.
Amazon Help have advised that as they wont ship the AU power adapter to NZ I should purchase a local power adapter in NZ.
The adapter looks fairly unique though. Anybody have experience with purchasing something compatible locally?
