I went on Tuesday looking for the virtual wall tape, but they didn't have it.
I also asked if they'd stock the s50 gen 2, the salesperson wasn't sure, he said maybe next year.
I didn't ask about any other parts or accessories.

After waiting 3 months my Mi Vac has finally arrived from DSE and has done a great job thus far.

Only issue has been my dark carpet and I was getting constant Error 4 messages indicating to clean the cliff sensors. I’ve stuck some white paper over the sensors and that’s fixed it. Single story house so no risk of falling off a cliff.

Wife is yet to be convinced of its worth - but that maybe because it’s doing a better job :)

Hi. Apologies if my question has been discussed and answered previously, I'm interested in purchasing a xiaomi robot vacuum from the mi store online, but would like to know how they perform with a house with two large haired dogs and a long haired tabby cat? At present I use a miele power head vacuum that does a good job.

Our house is carpeted throughout with nylon based medium pile, and the kitchen has tiles. We don't have too many obstacles other then kitchen table and chairs.

Let me know what you guys/gals think.

I would be confident that it would be up to the task, but you'd need to schedule it to run daily so it doesn't get overwhelmed by any build up.

I believe it does a superior job to a manual cleaner. I have 2 friends who have purchased them, both of their partners rolled their eyes at this 'gimmick' when it was unboxed, only to be left appalled when it's filled up the dust compartment multiple times on it's first pass of the already recently vacuumed house.

Long human hair gets wrapped around the vacuum roller but I think it hair would be too short to tangle

Other than DickSmith can I buy the 2nd gen (or Roborock S50 is an alternative name too) it from anyone "locally"?

Because this will hit the $400 GST limit.

Yep - only problem with pets is that you do need to do a quick patrol before setting it off. You never when/where they poo/puke.
However the hair is no problem, if running daily. You might need to stop halfway the first few runs to empty.

Just to add my experience; I bought one in the PBTech Cyber Monday sale, and have used it several times since.

The robot always encounters the 'main brush stuck' error 2-3 times per whole house clean. I noticed that it's not really stuck: you can just restart it and it goes again, which is ok but annoying.

Because I wanted this to run while we're out and not have to be concerned about it, I set up home assistant (home-assistant.io) and added the vacuum to it. Now when it gets in this error state, it automatically restarts it for me :-) which is great. Now with that problem solved, we're extremely happy with the vacuum and the job it does. Well worth the $, but I'm sure that main brush error would annoy the crap out of those who aren't inclined to fix it themselves

I'm looking at the Xiaomi S50 (basically Mi generation II). I've watched a TON of reviews on YouTube and they get top marks for all round performance vs value for money (compared to other brands for the same price or more) We don't have shag pile rugs... just low pile carpet and timber floor, so minimal issues there.

DSE selling for $649. Obviously a lot more than 1st gen Mi at around $389 retail, but I've read the S50 is quite a step up, so would rather fork out for something that simply works better rather than get pissed off and replacing in a years time. And for the sake of ~$50-$80 more by buying "locally" (ok AUS but close enough) I'd rather just suck that up and pay retail and get local warranties than deal via China or Amazon.

So before I go splash out on my wife's Xmas present (oh c'mon, while it's a vacuum cleaner at least it's automated it saves her doing it!!!) does anyone have this model and can throw their 10 cents in?

EDIT: Well that's annoying, Dick Smith fine print says "takes 1-2 weeks to LEAVE our warehouse" and then "3-5 business days" after that. Could be after Xmas. Ugh. So, I've just eaten my words, taken the risk and just bought from AliExpress est. 9-17 days. Just remembered wifes bday is in January so worse case scenario it's a bday pressie hahaa!

I have bought it from Parallel Imported for $619, arrived yesterday in 6 working days, they even included a power adapter.

It is pretty cool, a few things still to sort out, and it is a pain that all of my other Mi devices are on the Mainland China server but the S50 does not want to work on that server.
